Lazarus
by Svitlana Taratorina
The events of this novel take place in 913 in Kyiv. Humans and evil spirits coexist together - ghouls, devils, werewolves, spirits of the forest, spirit of the fields, and spirits of the water. Relative peace between them has been maintained for centuries. Humans rule the Global Empire, while the evil spirits are waiting for the return of their legendary king - the Serpent. And suddenly everything changes. In the reeds near Trukhaniv Island the body of the human has been found with the signs of violence afflicted by the beast. No one knows who committed the terrible crime. In order to find the culprit and prevent a new war between humans and evil spirits, an experienced investigator Oleksandr Petrovych Tyurin is brought in. But will he be able to overcome his own demons and see what he refused to believe for many years? The novel "Lazarus" is a winner in the nomination "Fiction for adults" in the literary competition organised by the Ukrainian publishing house "KM-Books". This is a fresh look at the genre of fantasy from Ukraine.

Die Apokryphen des Lazarus
Zwölf Feuilletons
by Attila Bartis, Laszlo Kornitzer

by Lazarus Goldschmidt

The Lazarus Shares
A Wertheim's Return To Berlin
by T.M. Löwenthal
With the fall of the Berlin Wall, the Germans offer to return unclaimed properties to the survivors and heirs able to provide proof of original ownership. This is the story of those who inherited the challenge of such an offer, those who would build a case to reclaim the assets and risk revisiting the past. Part exposé and part family saga, The Lazarus Shares is a tale within a tale, the story of emigrant wealthy Wertheims, Jewish Berliners whose present-day heirs face the ironic task of amassing proof of their family’s Berlin credentials. But it is in-between these timelines that the real story is revealed, a brother and sister trying to keep up with their mother, the wild Lili whose mastery of assimilation is exceeded only by her mastery of a vagabond life. Stretching from Kassel to Jerusalem, Budapest to London, Hollywood to Bogota, the story unravels one man’s stand against the past, Gus Maparae’s legacy to his daughter, Emma, the last of the Wertheims, the last pawn left standing. The author lives with her family in a small house on the Southern Carmel Mountains in Israel enjoying a view to Phoenician ruins, a magical milieu to her other pursuits as a teacher of Philosophy (Ethics) and local tour guide. An English-language eBook edition has been scheduled for publication in fall 2017 by Samuel Wachtman's Sons, Inc., CA. 360 pages 15 x 22.5 cm.

Key Questions in Environmental Toxicology
A Study and Revision Guide
by J P F D'Mello
Key Questions in Environmental Toxicology is designed as a self-study tool for undergraduate students. Questions review the origin, characterization and environmental distribution of major pollutants, followed by their absorption and metabolic disposition in living organisms. They address implications for the development of cancer, cardiovascular disease, pulmonary dysfunction and neurological conditions in relation to gaseous pollutants, particulates, persistent organic compounds and radioactive emissions, then cover the impact of pollutants on biodiversity, food safety, and water contamination. This book: - Covers toxicology from human morbidity, ecological impact and biodiversity perspectives, and emphasises the impact of diverse organic pollutants in worsening these interconnected phenomena, leading to wider environmental emergencies; - Provides a selection of fill-in-the-gap, multiple choice and short answer question types for students to vary their learning and enhance motivation; - Includes full answer rationales, allowing students to gain true insight into the subject. Providing support to programmes across environmental science, ecology and human health, and covering all the major biological toxins and pollutants as well as unintended consequences of actions designed to improve outcomes, this book may be used in conjunction with the companion volume Introduction to Environmental Toxicology.

Humanity in the Crisis Zone
Field Report of a Nurse on H umanitarian Aid with Doctors Without Borders (MSF) in South Sudan
by Andreas F. Lutz
A hospital somewhere in remote South Sudan. A place where peoples’ lives are marked by extreme poverty, war, violence, the climate crisis and the daily struggle for survival. How does it feel to be human under these conditions? What moves someone to voluntarily go where nobody would want to? Andreas Lutz takes you on a journey to a project run by the humanitarian aid organization Médecins Sans Frontières in the northeast of South Sudan. Impressed by encounters with people who live under the precarious conditions of this crisis zone, he writes about his experiences as a caregiver and, among other things, about how healthcare provision works with very limited resources.
