In some European countries, one in four children is now diagnosed with ADHD (attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder) due to their socially disruptive behaviour. The treatment usually consists of suppressing the symptoms with psychostimulants such as Ritalin. This treatment does not improve school performance, but it curbs the children’s creativity and may stigmatise them for their entire lives. Taking an opposing viewpoint, ADHD expert Dr. Amrei Wittwer focuses on the physical and psychological well-being of the affected children. Because almost all “ADHD patients“ are facing difficulties in relationships with adults, she considers that a solution begins with the children’s domestic and school environments, instruction of parents and teachers, and by using therapeutic approaches rather than simply sedating the children. “Children are our future”, is a common theme in Sunday speeches. Anyone who takes this point seriously, whether or not they themselves are immediately affected, should think about this important topic.

Die Lebensgeschichte des Itzik Manger (1901 – 1969) wird verschränkt mit einer lebendigen Schilderung der jiddisch-säkularen Kultur Osteuropas zwischen den Weltkriegen. Und passend orientiert sich die Texteinrichtung durch die Autorin an der Seitengestaltung des Talmud: mit erzählendem Haupttext, Abbildungen und erläuternden Seitentexten. „In Mangers Lebens- und Schaffensgeschichte verkörpern sich Entwicklung und Reichtum der jiddischen Kultur bis 1939, ihre Zerstörung und der tragische Bruch, den die Shoah hinterlassen hat. Mangers Werk entspringt dem jüdischen Osteuropa mit seinen rumänischen, galizischen, polnischen und baltischen Landschaften, in denen seit der zweiten Hälfte des 19. Jahrhunderts eine jiddisch-säkulare Kultur sich rasch entfaltete … Itzik Manger zog es, wie die meisten seiner Kollegen, nach Warschau, weil man dort auf unterschiedlichste Weise jiddisch denken, leben und schöpferisch tätig sein konnte. Sie dachten Europa jenseits des Gegensatzes von Eigenkultur und Fremdkultur … Im zunehmend nationalistischen und antisemitischen Polen war das jiddische Europa ein kosmopolitischer Entwurf, ein imaginierter, herbeigeschriebener Ort, an dem jiddisches Leben beheimatet war.“

Mit Programmen wie ChatGPT hat künstliche Intelligenz ein solches Niveau erreicht, dass es kaum noch möglich ist, zu erkennen, ob ein Text von einem Computer stammt oder von einem Menschen. Können Sie zum Beispiel mit Bestimmtheit ausschließen, dass diese Zeilen von einem Algorithmus verfasst wurden? Für die Rezeption von Geschriebenem bedeutet das eine Zeitenwende. Wenn wir stets unterstellen müssen, dass hinter einem Text KI steckt, ergibt die Unterscheidung natürlich/artifiziell keinen Sinn mehr – eine postartifizielle Ära bricht an. Hannes Bajohr erörtert, wie sich diese Verschiebung auf Zeitungsartikel oder wissenschaftliche Publikationen auswirkt und wie sie das literarische Lesen und Schreiben verändert.
