Samurai oder Von der Würde des Scheiterns

Tragische Helden in der Geschichte Japans

by Ivan Morris, Gunther Ludwig, Ursula Gräfe

by Charles W. Morris, Achim Eschbach, Stefan Eschbach, Achim Eschbach, Achim Eschbach

        Practical R for Biologists

        An Introduction

by Donald Quicke, Buntika A Butcher, Rachel Kruft Welton

R is a freely available, open-source statistical programming environment which provides powerful statistical analysis tools and graphics outputs. R is now used by a very wide range of people; biologists (the primary audience of this book), but also all other scientists and engineers, economists, market researchers and medical professionals. R users with expertise are constantly adding new associated packages, and the range already available is immense. This text works through a set of studies that collectively represent almost all the R operations that biology students need in order to analyse their own data. The material is designed to serve students from first year undergraduates through to those beginning post graduate levels. Chapters are organized around topics such as graphing, classical statistical tests, statistical modelling, mapping, and text parsing. Examples are based on real scientific studies, and each one covers the use of more R functions than those simply necessary to get a p-value or plot. The book walks the reader through the data analysis process, starting with very simple plots, and continuing through more complex analyses and programming. It shows how to deal with issues such as error messages that can be confronting for beginners, in order to set students up for a successful scientific career using R.Collectively the authors have a vast amount of teaching experience which they apply here to make the passage into R programming as gentle and easy as possible, whilst guiding the reader to tackle quite complicated programming. Experimental Design and Analysis in Animal Sciences

        by Trevor R Morris

Many students and even researchers often make the mistake of using too few or too many animals in their experiments. This can lead to misleading results or waste of animal resources. Drawing on examples from animal experiments this book illustrates the general principles of experimentation and analysis.Unlike other textbooks on statistics, this title will enable the student to better judge which tool might be appropriate to particular circumstances:An essential textbook for advanced undergraduates and graduate studentsA user-friendly guide for the design and analysis of experiment in animal scienceThe only textbook of its kind.

        Terence Fisher

        by Peter Hutchings

Terence Fisher is best known as the director who made most of the classic Hammer horrors - including The Curse of Frankenstein, Dracula and The Devil Rides Out. But there is more to Terence Fisher than Hammer horror. In a busy twenty-five-year career, he directed fifty films, not just horrors but also thrillers, comedies, melodramas and science-fiction. This book offers an appreciation of all of Fisher's films and also gives a sense of his place in British film history. Looking at Fisher's career as a whole not only underlines his importance as a film-maker but also casts a new, interesting light on the areas in which he worked - Gainsborough melodrama, the 1950s B film, 1960s science-fiction and, of course, Hammer, one of the most successful independent film companies in the history of British cinema.

        Intentionalität

Eine Abhandlung zur Philosophie des Geistes

by Harvey P. Gavagai, John R. Searle

        The Scottish witch-hunt in context

        by Julian Goodare

        A collection of essays on Scottish witchcraft and witch-hunting, which covers the whole period of the Scottish witch-hunt, from the mid-sixteenth century to the early eighteenth. Includes studies of particular witchcraft panics such as a reassessment of the role of King James VI. Covers a wide range of topics concerned with Scottish witch-hunting and places it in the context of other topics such as gender relations, folklore, magic and healing, and moral regulation by the church and state. Provides a comparative dimension of witch-hunting beyond Scotland - one on the global context, and one comparing Scotland with England. It is a showcase for the latest thinking on the subject and will be of interest to all scholars studying witchcraft in early modern Europe, as well as the general reader wanting to move beyond shallow and sensational accounts of a subject of compelling in. ;

        Invasive Plant Ecology and Management

        Linking Processes to Practice

by Lesley R Morris, Samuel D Fuhlendorf, A Josh Leffler, Mark W Paschke, Valerie T Eviner, Joel R Brown, Stuart Hardegree, Nancy L Shaw, Beth A Newingham, Christopher A Call, Joseph M DiTomaso, Jeremy J James, Jane M Mangold, Steven G Whisenant. Edited by Thomas A Monaco, Roger L Sheley.

Bringing together ecology and management of invasive plants within natural and agricultural ecosystems, this book bridges the knowledge gap between the processes operating within ecosystems and the practices used to prevent, contain, control and eradicate invasive plant species. The book targets key processes that can be managed, the impact of invasive plants on these ecosystem processes and illustrates how adopting ecologically based principles can influence the ecosystem and lead to effective land management.

Experimental Design and Analysis for Tree Improvement

by Emlyn Williams, Chris Harwood, Colin Matheson

This third edition of Experimental Design and Analysis for Tree Improvement provides a set of practical procedures to follow when planning, designing and analysing tree improvement trials. Using many fully worked examples, it outlines how to: design field, glasshouse and laboratory trials; efficiently collect and construct electronic data files; pre-process data, screening for data quality and outliers; analyse data from single and across-site trials; and interpret the results from statistical analyses. The authors address the many practical issues often faced in forest tree improvement trials and describe techniques that will efficiently give conclusive results. The techniques provided are applicable to the improvement of not only trees, but to crops in general. Building on the success of the second edition, this new edition has been fully revised to include the construction of p-rep and spatial designs using the commercially available software package for design generation (CycDesigN). For analysis of the examples, it provides online Genstat and SAS programs and a link to R programs.
