Plastik sparen Die Geschichte einer Idee Die Idee für Plastik sparen ist im Juni 2018 entstanden. Wie schon so oft endete ein Wocheneinkauf im totalen Plastik-Inferno. Kennt ihr das? Einmal einkaufen beim Supermarkt um die Ecke und schon ist eine Mülltüte voll mit Plastik. Aber wie kann ich das ändern, fragte ich mich. Also informierte ich mich, war bei einem Vortrag zum Thema "plastikfrei leben" um dann mit dem Gefühl zurück zu bleiben, das nicht leisten zu können. Aber einfach weiter Plastik konsumieren war für mich auch keine Alternative. Es musste doch Möglichkeiten geben Plastik zu reduzieren, die Jedermann*frau ganz einfach in den Alltag einbauen kann. Und so war "Plastik sparen" geboren. Die Idee dahinter, durch viele kleine Plastik-spar-Aktivitäten den Plastikmüll in meinem Haushalt zu reduzieren. Und, ich kann sagen es funktioniert. Bei jedem Einkauf landet wesentlich weniger Plastikverpackung im Einkaufswagen als früher. Alles Aktivitäten, die keine (oder nur wenig) Zeit gekostet haben, die oftmals Geld gespart haben und die ich problemlos in den Alltag integrieren konnte. "Plastik sparen" ist unser Beitrag für eine Umwelt mit weniger Plastik. Meine Ideen, Gedanken und Erlebnisse möchte ich teilen und viele Menschen dafür begeistern, immer weniger Plastik in ihr Leben zu lassen.

The volume introduces new perspectives on the intellectual trajectories of well-known figures and critical activists including C. L. R. James, Paul Robeson, Walter Rodney and Grace P. Campbell. This biographical approach brings a vivid and distinctive lens to bear on how racialised social and political worlds were negotiated and experienced by these revolutionary figures, and on historic black radical engagements with left political movements, in the wake of the Russian Revolution.

Im goldenen Herbst des Jahres 2012 stand »Die Welt« für einen Tag still, und als Sinnbild des Stillstands lag dort ein schläfriger Hund, wo sonst die Schlagzeilen drohen. Was war geschehen? Gerhard Richter, einer der global maßgeblichen Künstler, hatte die Herrschaft ergriffen und allen 30 Seiten der »Welt«-Ausgabe vom 5. Oktober 2012 seinen Handstempel aufgedrückt: Bilder von ruhigen Momenten in unruhigen Zeiten, Aufhebung des politischen Primats, Privates statt Welthistorisches, vor allem aber: kunstvolle Kontraste zwischen Schärfe und Unschärfe. Bei der öffentlichen Vorstellung dieser ungewöhnlichen Kunstaktion hielt Alexander Kluge die Laudatio. Spontan begleitete er die Fotos mit Geschichten. Gerhard Richter antwortete darauf ebenso spontan mit dem Vorschlag eines gemeinsamen Buches. Richter lieferte weitere Bilder und Kluge weitere Geschichten. So entstand nach dem Erfolgsbuch »Dezember« eine zweite gemeinsame Arbeit der beiden im Februar 1932 geborenen Künstler: ein Buch zur zeitgleich durchlebten Geschichte, so scharf wie unscharf gesehen.

Zum Anlass seines 90. Geburtstags erscheinend, ist dies vielleicht das persönlichste Buch von Alexander Kluge. Das Buch der Kommentare folgt dem spielerischen Geschwisterkind Zirkus. Kommentar auf dem Fuße, bietet diesem zugleich aber die Stirn, führt den Leser mit bitterem Ernst hinein in den »unruhigen Garten der Seele«. Ausgangspunkt der Erzählung ist der düstere Advent 2020. Wir erleben eine Karambolage zweier Lebenswelten: Ein Virus drängt sich in unser Leben ein und stellt an unsere Gewohnheiten und unsere Intelligenz hartnäckige Fragen – vertraute Fragen und doch in ganz neuer Beleuchtung: Wie verlässlich sind die obersten Führungsetagen unserer Welt? The Russian Revolution and the Black Atlantic

The Russian Revolution of 1917 was not just a world-historical event in its own right, but also struck powerful blows against racism and imperialism, and so inspired many black radicals internationally. This edited collection explores the implications of the creation of the Soviet Union and the Communist International for black and colonial liberation struggles across the African diaspora. It examines the critical intellectual influence of Marxism and Bolshevism on the current of revolutionary 'black internationalism' and analyses how 'Red October' was viewed within the contested articulations of different struggles against racism and colonialism. Challenging European-centred understandings of the Russian Revolution and the global left, The Red and the Black offers new insights on the relations between Communism, various lefts and anti-colonialisms across the Black Atlantic - including Garveyism and various other strands of Pan-Africanism. The volume makes a major and original intellectual contribution by making the relations between the Russian Revolution and the Black Atlantic central to debates on questions relating to racism, resistance and social change.

This series provides texts central to medieval studies courses and focuses upon the diverse cultural, social and political conditions that affected the functioning of all levels of medieval society. Translations are accompanied by introductory and explanatory material and each volume includes a comprehensive guide to the sources' interpretation, including discussion of critical linguistic problems and an assessment of recent research on the topics covered. From 1348 to 1350 Europe was devastated by an epidemic that left between a third and one half of the population dead. This source book traces, through contemporary writings, the calamitous impact of the Black Death in Europe, with a particular emphasis on its spread across England from 1348 to 1349. Rosemary Horrox surveys contemporary attempts to explain the plague, which was universally regarded as an expression of divine vengeance for the sins of humankind. Moralists all had their particular targets for criticism. However, this emphasis on divine chastisement did not preclude attempts to explain the plague in medical or scientific terms. Also, there was a widespread belief that human agencies had been involved, and such scapegoats as foreigners, the poor and Jews were all accused of poisoning wells. The final section of the book charts the social and psychological impact of the plague, and its effect on the late-medieval economy.
