Augustinian University Press
The Augustinian University Press concentrates its efforts in the publication of research books, textbooks, and dissemination books as a result of permanent calls that intend to receive and review monographs and research chapters. The Press permanently works to guarantee content quality published under its editorial stamp and also to be recognized among the academic community as a reliable source of scholarly publishing in Augustinian Studies, Education (from all levels), Humanities, Social Sciences, and Arts and Culture. Since its creation in 2017, the Press research books have been already accepted and indexed in important databases such as the Book Citation Index and the Directory of Open Access Books (DOAB). This experience has strengthened our editorial processes and the permanent identification of current editing and science communication tendencies. The Press also promotes net working to publish new editorial projects between our researchers and external scholars; we do believe this is one of the most important strategies to make our institution and scholars more visible.

Augusto Boal, geboren 1931 in Rio de Janeiro, Brasilien, studierte Chemie und Theaterwissenschaften an der Columbia University, New York. Von 1956 bis 1971 war er Leiter des Teatro de Arena de São Paulo. Von 1971 bis 1976 lebte er in Buenos Aires, Argentinien, im Exil, von 1976 bis 19178 in Lisboa, Portugal, seit Herbst 1978 ist er Dozent an der Université de la Sorbonne Nouvelle in Paris. Wichtige Stücke: Revolução na América do Sul; Arena conta Zumbi; Arena conta Tiradentes; Torquemada; Murro em ponta da faca. Theoretische Arbeiten: Teatro do Oprimido e outras poéticas políticas; Técnicas Latinoamericanas de Teatro Popular; Duzentos exercícios e jogos para o actor e o não actor com ganas de dizer algo através do teatro. Ende der fünfziger, Anfang der sechziger Jahre wurde am Teatro de Arena in São Paulo ein neues Volkstheater-Konzept entwickelt, das alsbald in ganz Lateinamerika von sich reden machte. Dieses Konzept ist eng verbunden mit dem Namen Augusto Boal. In der von ihm gegründeten Theaterschule wurden in Kollektivarbeit Stücke geschrieben und geprobt, die sich an diejenigen richteten, die im Elend lebten. Boal spielte diese Stücke in den Dörfern, vor Analphabeten, in den Slums der Städte. Und er erfand neue Darstellungstechniken, die die Zuschauer aus ihrer passiven Haltung befreiten und sie selber zu Handelnden machten. 1971 wurde Boal verhaftet, in der Untersuchungshaft gefoltert. Nach seiner Entlassung mußte er Brasilien verlassen. Unser Band gibt Einblick in die Arbeit dieses wichtigen »Theatermachers« Lateinamerikas. Er enthält Texte zur Theorie und Praxis, Protokolle, Erfahrungsberichte.

Looking at contemporary film and television, this book explores how popular genres frame our understanding of on-screen performance. Previous studies of screen performance have tended to fix upon star actors, directors, or programme makers, or they have concentrated upon particular training and acting styles. Moving outside of these confines, this book provides a truly interdisciplinary account of performance in film and television and examines a much neglected area in our understanding of how popular genres and performance intersect on screen. Each chapter concentrates upon a particular genre or draws upon generic case studies in examining the significance of screen performance. Individual chapters examine contemporary film noir, horror, the biopic, drama-documentary, the western, science fiction, comedy performance in 'spoof news' programmes and the television 'sit com' and popular Bollywood films.
