Possédant un diplôme d’ingénieur en électronique, Adam a dirigé un programme de défense de 1,2 milliards de dollars et a également fondé trois entreprises start-up dans le high-tech. Aujourd’hui, Adam est ingénieur-conseil supérieur dans les industries aéronautiques et il partage son temps entre la technique de haut niveau et l’écriture de livres et de scénarios. Il est marié et a trois enfants.

Sie lebt in Oldenburg und Südfrankreich.

Neoliberal precarity, generational dispossession and call centre labour in Portugal

Since the mid-2000s, the harsh reality of call centre employment for a generation of young workers in Portugal has been impossible to ignore. With its endless rows of small cubicles, where human agents endure repetitive telephone conversations with abusive clients under invasive modes of technological surveillance, discipline and control, call centre work remains a striking symbol of labour precarity, a condition particularly associated with the neoliberal generational disenchantment that 'each generation does better than its predecessor'. This book describes the emergence of a regime of disciplined agency in the Portuguese call centre sector. Examining the ascendancy of call centres as icons of precarity in contemporary Portugal, this book argues that call centre labour constitutes a new form of commodification of the labouring subject. De Matos argues that call centres represent an advanced system of non-manual labour power exploitation, due to the underestimation of human creativity that lies at the centre of the regimented structures of call centre labour. Call centres can only guarantee profit maintenance, de Matos argues, through the commodification of the human agency arising from the operators' moral, relational and social embedded agentive linguistic interventions of creative improvisation, decision-making, problem-solving and ethical evaluation.

Einer sich rapide individualisierenden Gesellschaft, deren atomistischer und anomischer Zustand sie besonders anfällig für faschistische Propaganda macht, setzen die Collègiens die Schaffung frei wählbarer Gemeinschaften entgegen, die durch Erfahrungen der kollektiven Ekstase, von Festen und Mythen zusammengehalten werden. Die reich kommentierte Edition von Denis Hollier hat den Diskussionszusammenhang des Collège de sociologie erstmals erschlossen und zeitlich nachvollziehbar gemacht. Zahlreiche Texte sind nur in dieser Ausgabe zugänglich; nun liegt sie erstmals in vollständiger deutscher Übersetzung vor. Editorisch bearbeitet und mit einem Nachwort von Irene Albers und Stephan Moebius.

They need evidence to condemn those criminals who terrorize the population with old indigenous beliefs. They call themselves witches. They are organized as La Recta Provincia or La Hermandad de la Casa Grande. They lie to scare and change the names of the cities on the island –Achao, Dalcahue or Quicaví–, confusing them with others: Buenos Aires, Villarrica, Salamanca. If they were only myths, it would be enough for the government to forget that secret place. But the one who calls himself the Greatest Liar in the World claims to have escaped the sorcerers and travels the north glimpsing the aliens: he talks to them of malice, monsters and murders; of the bloody clans' struggles to become a decaying reign. For these lies, or to secure an unstable national pride, coronels and tenants decide to put an end to things that a mortal has no power to finish.
