Description
Fifty years after his death, Pablo Picasso (1881-1973) continues to be a reference, a synonym of Art. Eugenio d'Ors ended his essay on Goya with these words: "Any subject seems clear, until the day it is given a little study". This is probably what happens here when we delve into these pages to hear the artist speak in first person through his own friends, gallery owners, art critics and journalists who never satisfied their need to know more about the multifaceted universe of this man who embraced and shook the entire culture of the twentieth century.
For the first time in the vast Picasso bibliography, the largest number of interviews and conversations published to date (one hundred and thirty), most of them unknown, are collected. And Picasso is present in all of them, even in his silences. Here speaks the artist Picasso, but also the human being: the familiar one, the one of his private world, the one committed to causes... As he said in 1945: the artist "is at the same time a political being, constantly alert to the events of the world, whether heartbreaking, urgent or pleasant, molding himself entirely in its image".
Through the printed word, but also through the timbre of his recorded voice, we now have the sensation of knowing more about this character, at least of knowing unpublished features of his life and of getting closer to the keys, always controversial, of an enormous production that still amazes us, overwhelms us and endures.
