Reviews
Author Biography
Lew Yung-Chien was born in Shanghai, China. After earning his arts degree from National Taiwan Normal University, he completed his studies at l’École supérieure des arts modernes in Paris. The graphic design agency he later founded in Montreal catered to a blue-chip roster of Canadian corporations. Tai-chi has been a lifelong passion, integrated into Lew’s work and daily life. His book L’esprit du taï-chi (2009) was followed by 60 Chinese Cookies (2011). The latter was honoured in Taiwan in 2011 with the Arts Society of China Award. For the past twenty years Lew has been defining a new way to reflect reality with the camera, a style that he has labelled “swiftism.” He is also a devoted calligrapher, painter and potter, and a regular speaker in Silicon Valley and China. In 2014, he was elected to membership in the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts. In May and June 2015, his work has been the subject of a major solo exhibition in China.
