      El baño de Moka

      by María Castro, Sonia Negrete

Moka, our main character belongs to the same breed of loyal water dogs who, throughout the centuries, have accompanied fishermen on their ships, retrieving fallen ropes, all sorts o different fish, untangling nets, sending messages from one boat to another, saving shipwreck survivors…Our Moka doesn’t accompany a fisherman but she is the best at finding lost things, stopping balls, swimming in muddy puddles, giving hugs, licking faces, accomplishing dreams and many other things that we will find out alongside her in this series of seven books.

      by Laura Riñón Sirera

Clementina had the story of her life written before she was even born and it seemed happy, fortunate and privileged. Born into a family of the Madrid nobility she was always a happy child. But her grandmother, the spiteful, had already warned those around her, when she heard them talk about how the little girl didn’t cry, that “if she wasn’t crying now, she would do so in the future”. She had just turned sixteen when everything her family had planned for her was frustrated by the quirks of fate and her only way out was to escape. The first chapter of her new life starts here, already changed into a new person. A story of acceptance of her new self, of reconciliation with a solitude that will accompany her around the maps where she chooses to get lost, Madrid, Valencia and the United States. This is then story of a never-ending journey of a woman that could’ve had it all and was forced to forget her past to become a different person, one she had to embrace. Life teaches her a valuable lesson: in the escape the coward shows his courage.

      by Ernesto Calabuig

"Writing is daring, like taking your clothes off on a beach”. This is the start to the first of the short stories that make up this book, the story of a writer who, at the age of forty-seven, decides to stop the inertia and decline of her life and not come back from her summer holiday. The main character of Beijing-Xàtiva, on board of a train, will also find out the almost unfathomable implications of trying to bring the past back. Through this collection we see a whole gallery of diverse characters that share the common denominator of a fight against the frantic pace of time: school teachers, flamenco dancers, old sea men, Japanese engineers, fathers that watch their children grow and drift away, impossible lovers from an old translation academy, high school lovers who lost track of each other, men visited by Greek philosophers and tormented by a dream, French guitarists, voyeurs of other people’s lives… Even Leonard Cohen portrayed in detail during his years in a Buddhist monastery, in silence, away from the stage.
