        Antonio and Mellida

        John Marston

        by David Bevington, W Gair, Richard Dutton, Alison Findlay, Helen Ostovich

        Antonio and Mellida was the first play by John Marston performed by the newly revived Paul's Company in 1599. Marston sought to display a variety of talents, comic, tragic, satiric and historical, advertising his own dramatic skills and the prowess of the choristers of Paul's. The play is based on incidents in the reigns of Sforza, Francesco, Galeazzo and Lodovico, who were Dukes of Milan in the late fifteenth and early sixteenth centuries. Marston displays a detailed knowledge of the dramatic works of Shakespeare, Seneca, Kyd and Nashe as well as the prose of Sidney, Erasmus, Montaigne, Florio and others. This edition relates the play to a wide variety of literary contexts. It also includes a comprehensive introduction, an analysis of staging, and full commentary. The text is based on a collation of all known copies of the 1602 Quarto and is presented in a thoroughly modernised format. ;

        Stille

        Erzählung

        by Antonio Benedetto, Curt Meyer-Clason

        Die 1964 in Buenos Aires erschienene Erzählung El silenciero von Antonio Di Benedetto handelt von einem Mann, der besessen ist von dem Verlangen nach Stille und der schließlich, als Brandstifter verdächtigt, im Gefängnis landet. Überraschend an dieser Prosa ist der völlige Verzicht auf Episoden, die Reduktion der Schilderung auf Aussagesätze, deren hervorstehendes Merkmal der Lakonismus ist. »Vor Jahren, als in Frankreich noch kein Mensch vom nouveau roman sprach, nahm Antonio Di Benedetto mit seinen ersten Erzählungen das Programm dieser neuen Literatur vorweg.« Alfonso Sola Gonzáles

        Egypt and the rise of fluid authoritarianism

        Political ecology, power and the crisis of legitimacy

        by Maria Gloria Polimeno

        Egypt and the rise of fluid authoritarianism focuses on the struggle of the post-2013 political authorities for internal political legitimacy after the crisis following the 2013 coup d'état. It explores the microstructural and macro-systemic dynamics of leadership, power, protests and the authority-making process in political systems. These cannot simply be defined as structural, political, social and economic projections of the authoritarianism of the past, but rather as a rupture with that past. The book offers a complex, ground-breaking socio-political and economic analysis into how the forging of an internal political legitimacy claim has eventually modified the regime in Egypt along the authoritarian spectrum, turning into a fluid autocracy closer to a non-exclusivist personalist regime. This shift had implications that resonated both politically and economically.
