        by Yan Zhen

        "Above Living" is a novel by Yan Zhen. The author uses meticulous meticulous brushwork to describe college life and academic ecology one by one. From the examination and employment of doctoral students, to the work and life of college teachers, the distribution of papers and page fees, academic seminars, awards, application for topics, competition for administrative positions, and even the application and acquisition of students' election cadres, examinations, and grants Wait, there are so many stories about corruption in colleges and universities, which are rarely encountered by readers outside colleges. He even wrote about the real situation of another type of intellectuals, represented by "I", who have conscience and pursuit, but have no choice but to survive in the real environment. Although these people have also succumbed to reality, they still have a trace of longing for the independent personality of Chinese traditional intellectuals deep in their hearts. The special feature of "Above Living" is that it has a detailed description of the academic ecology and "survival" ecology of colleges and universities, which is of pioneering significance, and is happy to see by people who care about education and knowledge communities. Moreover, this novel is written with great meaning, with the height of literature and the height of thinking.

        The Library and archive collections of the University of Aberdeen

        An introduction and description

        by Edited by Iain Beaven, Peter Davidson and Jane Stevenson

        This volume commences with the the books and manuscripts given at the foundation of King's College in 1495, continues with the collections which accrued to Marischal College from its foundation in 1593, and comes together with the fusion of the two colleges in 1860 in the modern University of Aberdeen. From the beginning, the scope and focus of the University was international, and its developing collections represent a microcosm of the world of knowledge as it changed over the centuries. The University Colleges of Aberdeen have a distinct intellectual tradition: pragmatically tolerant in times of persecution; dissident from the religious and political policies of the Lowlands; looking outwards to the world of northern Europe and to the territories of the Jacobite diaspora. The book introduces one of the oldest continually-evolving academic library collections of the Anglophone world, surveys its history and includes a series of studies of items or collections of particular interest. ;

        My Life with Lifers

        by Elaine Leeder

        My Life With Lifers Lessons For A Teacher: Humanity Has No Bars "I have always been drawn to darkness," Elaine Leeder writes. "I know I always championed the underdog." As a sociology professor at Ithaca College in the 1990s, she began teaching at Elmira Correctional Facility in upstate New York. When she moved to California, that same desire to help led her to the prison education program at San Quentin. Then, inspired by her lessons, a group of Leeder's students approached her about working with a program the prisoners had established to aid in their long and difficult process of redemption and transformation. She accepted. These members of New Leaf on Life-the San Quentin "lifers"-have been sentenced to terms ranging from fifteen years to life in prison. Unlike Death Row inmates, who will either die in prison or be executed, many of the lifers are eligible for parole after having spent twenty to thirty years behind bars. But too often, they never see that opportunity because of the popular view that they are all "hardened criminals," killers incapable of rehabilitation and unfit to be free. What Leeder has learned, however, is that incarceration does not dictate character. Her students, although they are convicts, are committed to making their time in jail a life sentence in the best sense, not a death sentence. They have gone the extra mile to come to terms with their crimes, and have often managed to redeem their lives. My Life With Lifers shares the journey of a woman "on the outside" as she discovered the true nature of life in prison, and the roadblocks-so many of them unneeded-on the inmates' path to freedom. What Leeder's experiences add up to is both a fascinating human story and a reasoned and impassioned case for prison reform.

        Wheat Production and Utilization

        Systems, Quality and Environment

        by Mike J Gooding, W P Davies

        The domestication of wheat, more than any other plant, has allowed food to be produced in sufficient quantities to support community settlement, cultural development and population growth. Wheat is one of the major sources of energy, protein and dietary fibre in human nutrition. This book comprehensively describes how wheat is produced and used. It begins with a consideration of how the different grain characteristics influence the subsequent utilization of the harvested wheat. A large part of the book is then devoted to advice and discussion concerning establishing, managing and harvesting a successful crop, including the control of disease, and the use of wheat as forage. There is also a thorough consideration of the storage and use of the crop post-harvest. Wheat is grown and used throughout the world and the book reflects this by containing examples from many different countries. Research on the impact of the environment on the quality of the grain is presented and discussed, and the challenges facing growers and wheat researchers in different geographical locations are examined throughout the book. This book is essential reading for all agronomy lecturers and students at universities and colleges. By bringing together recent research and practice it is also a valuable resource for researchers and advisors in this area, such as plant breeders, agronomists and pathologists.
