Pablo Neruda's Veinte poemas de amor y una canción desesperada (1924) is the most widely read and best loved book of poetry ever written in Spanish. Its verses can be recited by heart by millions of Latin Americans from every background and walk of life, and it has become almost a bible for young lovers. Yet despite, or perhaps because of this immense popular success, it has received scant attention from scholars, often being studied out of context and in relatively superficial fashion. This new critical edition - the first to include critical notes in English - argues that the book constitutes a critical juncture in the young Neruda's development as a poet, and that the poems are as much painstakingly wrought experiments in style, language and form as they are outpourings of youthful passion. A detailed introduction in English demonstrates that the Viente poemas represent the culmination of complex and sometimes fraught poetic apprenticeship, significant traces of which can be found in the poems themselves. This is followed by a series of commentaries which offer close readings of all twenty-one poems, an extensive bibliography, a selected vocabulary, and a list of key rhetorical and metrical terms. ;

Esta es una historia de amor: el apasionado amor entre un hombre y una mujer; el amor a un país que causa muerte; el amor afectuoso de los padres por su hijo, que resulta ser un amor que lo mata y a ellos también. Es también una historia sobre la muerte, y el fracaso de ese amor desesperado. Psicóloga y profesora de universidad Hadassa Ashdot nació en Tel Aviv y creció en Jerusalén. Sus cuentos cortos han aparecido en dos revistas literarias destacadas, Moznayim y Prosa. Hasta la fecha, Ashdot ha publicado dos novelas (en hebreo): Identidad perdida y Marianne de la nieve. Li Bai is the greatest romantic poet in our country in the Tang Dynasty. Choqueado por la muerte de sus amigos y la horrible experiencia de la guerra que ha girado su mundo al revés, Nadav deja a Marianne, la chica que ama, y se embarca en un viaje de auto purificación a los Himalayas. Pero ninguna salvación le aguarda en ese lugar. Después de que una avalancha de nieve lo deja enterrado, es rescatado magullado y maltrecho. Poco después se hunde en una oscura y profunda depresión, aguantando años de muerte viva en un abismo de desesperación. Al final, el amor, prueba ser la luz del final del túnel a través del cual Nadav hace su regreso a la vida. El amor, es la única fuerza capaz de curar una herida tan profunda que la guerra le dejó. Marianne, una voluntaria Finlandesa en el kibbutz, es la mujer que Nadav amó y abandonó, pero ella, no obstante, siempre lo acompañó durante las nieves de los Himalayas de las cuales escapa, en un intento de liberarse del dolor y la culpa por la muerte de sus amigos. Esther Tusquets wurde am 30.8.1936 in Barcelona geboren. Dort besuchte sie die Deutsche Schule. Später studierte sie in Barcelona und Madrid Philosophie, Geschichte und Literatur. 1960 übernahm sie den Verlag Lumen, den sie bis zum Jahr 2000 leitete. Mit 42 Jahren veröffentlichte sie ihren ersten Roman El mismo mar de todos los veranos (dt. Aller Sommer Meer, Reinbek, 1981, Berlin, 2002), es folgten die Romane El amor es un juego solitario (dt. Die Liebe ein einsames Spiel, Reinbek, 1982), Varada tras el último naufragio, Para no volver, Con la miel en los labios und mehrere Erzählbände sowie das hoch gelobte Kinderbuch La reina de los gatos. 2001 erschien ihr Briefroman Correspondencia privada (dt. Abschied von Don Juan, Frankfurt, 2003), der in Spanien große Anerkennung fand. Ihre Bücher sind in mehrere Sprachen übersetzt worden. Ester Tusquets verstarb am 23.07.2012 im Alter von 75 Jahren in Barcelona.

This book provides a novel analysis of the conceptual sources and ideological contours of the Assad regime. The book documents the Baathists' fascination with Romanticised and 'muscular' ideas of the nation that emerged in eighteenth- and nineteenth-century European social philosophy, and traces the implementation and impacts of these ideologies in the Syrian context. Emphasising the emergence of new forms of public gendered identity in Syria as a unifying feature of nationalism bound closely with the stability of the regime, the book shows how Romantic, muscular nationalism first rose to hegemony and then was shattered by its inherent violence, contradictions and inequalities. The final chapter closes by considering how a new vision of pluralism and civic belonging is today challenging the Romanticised Baathist ideal in contention for Syria's future.

En el camino, vivieron con el constante temor de captura, hambre, frío, enfermedad y la crueldad e indiferencia de la gente, pero hubo también casos de compasión y clemencia. Su fuga está acompañada de muchos peligros y amenazas. Una familia cristiana los echa a la calle por haberse persignado con la mano izquierda. Un delator ucraniano los entrega a la policía, lo que significa ser transportados a Treblinka. El tren es bombardeado y, el primer día de la Liberación, Mera es declarada culpable de colaborar con el enemigo alemán, un pecado que es penado con una sentencia de ejecución. DOMINGO POR LA TARDE EN EL PARQUE KILINSKI también relata la historia de Rójele, encarcelada por un par de botas, de Stiepan el policía ucraniano cuyo amor por Vera no evita que mate a toda la familia de ella, de Lieber, protegido por el cadáver de su padre en las fosas de la muerte de Susenki, de Sonia la conversa, a quien el crucifijo que llevaba colgado del cuello no la salvó, de la abuela Yadzia, la polaca que estaba dispuesta a sacrificar su vida por Libi, a quien amaba como su propia nieta, de Alex e Irena, las dos artistas de circo ucranianas que irónicamente estaban bajo la protección de Mera y de Rudolf, el paracaidista alemán cuyo galanteo y amor por Mera provocaron la desilusión. Arieh Stav nació en 1939 en Rovno, Polonia en aquel entonces y hoy día Ucrania. En 1951 emigró a Israel junto con su madre. Se educó en el kibutz Givat Haim, sirvió en el ejército de Israel como paracaidista y fue miembro del kibutz hasta 1963, cuando lo dejó y se mudó a Tel Aviv. Estudió psicología, filosofía y drama en la Universidad de Tel Aviv. Arieh Stav es el director del Ariel Center for Policy Research, una organización apolítica dedicada a la investigación exhaustiva y al debate de asuntos políticos y estratégicos que incumben a Israel y al pueblo judío. Stav es el editor de Nativ, a periódico bimestral sobre política y arte y es autor y editor de muchos libros y estudios de investigación. Tradujo al hebreo y publicó numerosos volúmenes de poemas épicos escritos a lo largo de los tiempos y en un gran número de idiomas.
