        My Bank Washes Greener

        Eco lies told by the finance sector

        by Bernd Villhauer

        — By the expert in ethical business — Once you have finished this, you will never fall for green financial lies again — Global Ethic Institute (Weltethos- Institut) network And suddenly every bank is sustainable. This truly necessary "debate book" explains in a wellfounded way what green-washing means in the financial sector, and why banks, insurance companies, asset managers, stockbrokers and other financial players clothe themselves in their allegedly so green-and-friendly cloak. It provides an easy-to-understand explanation of the various forms of greenwashing, how we can recognise the different "varieties" and – above all – how we can avoid them. This is also important because the entire financial and capital system is an important part of a sustainable future – and this can only succeed if it is honest, transparent and impact-orientated.

        Race and the Yugoslav region

        Postsocialist, post-conflict, postcolonial?

        by Catherine Baker, Gurminder Bhambra

        This is the first book to situate the territories and collective identities of former Yugoslavia within the politics of race - not just ethnicity - and the history of how ideas of racialised difference have been translated globally. The book connects critical race scholarship, global historical sociologies of 'race in translation' and south-east European cultural critique to show that the Yugoslav region is deeply embedded in global formations of race. In doing this, it considers the everyday geopolitical imagination of popular culture; the history of ethnicity, nationhood and migration; transnational formations of race before and during state socialism, including the Non-Aligned Movement; and post-Yugoslav discourses of security, migration, terrorism and international intervention, including the War on Terror and the present refugee crisis.

        Im Park der prächtigen Schwestern

        Roman

        by Camila Sosa Villada

        Gartengedichte

        by Rainer Maria Rilke, Marion Nickig, Marianne Beuchert

        Rainer Maria Rilkes Gärten sind »von Königen gebaut«. Sie sind still und hoheitsvoll, wirken wie »nie betreten«. Mit blumenbegrenzten weiten Rasenflächen, mit Alleen, gestalteten Bäumen, Kieswegen, Palästen und Pavillons, mit Bänken und Treppen aus Stein, Sonnenuhren und Fontänen und einer Überfülle an Blumen gleichen sie ausgebreiteten Prunkgewändern. Ihr eigentlicher Zauber aber liegt in ihrer beständigen Verwandlung. Rilke preist das unauflösliche Ineinander von lebendigstem Dasein und Vergänglichkeit, jenes »Äußerste von Sein und Neigen«, mit zärtlichen, betörenden Worten. Die Auswahl Marianne Beucherts lädt zu einem Gang durch diese Gärten ein. Die Ausgabe wird ergänzt durch zwölf farbige Park- und Blumenaufnahmen von Marion Nickig.

        The Paddington prophet

        Richard Brothers's journey to Jerusalem

        by Deborah Madden

        As an educated gentleman and naval officer, Richard Brothers dramatically altered eighteenth-century expectations and perceptions of what prophets were and the nature of prophecy itself. The messianic messages delivered to Londoners by the self-styled prophet are central to the religious politics and culture of the 1790s, mockingly referred to by one contemporary critic as the 'age of prophecy'. The Paddington Prophet is the first book-length study which probes deep under the skin of Brothers's apparently idiosyncratic writings and religious 'enthusiasm'. Close textual analysis of Brothers's writings shows the extent to which his Biblical, 'prophetic imagination' arose out of the same theological, political and cultural context that spurred 'radicals' like Tom Paine whilst inspiring poets and artists such as William Blake. Tracing the contours of his visionary experiences, this book exposes the intensity and vibrancy of Brothers's faith, the power of his prophetic imagination and the internal logic of his theology. ;

        World Bank Group interactions with environmentalists

        Changing international organisation identities

        by Susan Park, Mikael Anderssen, Duncan Liefferink

        This book shows how environmentalists have shaped the world's largest multilateral development lender, investment financier and political risk insurer to take up sustainable development. The book challenges an emerging consensus over international organisational change to argue that international organisations (IOs) are influenced by their social structure and may change their practices to reflect previously antithetical norms such as sustainable development. This important text locates sources of organisational change with environmentalists, thus demonstrating the ways in which non-state actors can effect change within large intergovernmental organisations through socialisation. It combines a theoretically sophisticated account of international organisation change with detailed empirical evidence of change in one issue area across three institutions. The book will be of interest to academics, postgraduate and upper undergraduate students in international relations, international political economy, environmental politics, development and globalisation studies and geography as well as policy makers, international bureaucrats and development practitioners. ;

        Ein Sonntagnachmittag Im Kilinski Park

        by Arieh Stav

        Ein  Sonntagnachmittag Im Kilinski Park   von Arieh Stav Gerüchte gingen umher. Ein Geruch von Angst lag in der Luft. Dann geschah alles unglaublich schnell. Die Sowjets gaben die Stadt auf. Die Deutschen standen vor den Toren. Mera Stollar packte ihr Baby und rannte um ihr Leben. Von diesem Tag an war ihr Leben eine Odyssee. Sie war auf der Flucht und es ging täglich um das pure Überleben. Dank der arischen Erscheinung ihres Sohnes (solange er nicht die Hosen herunterlassen musste...), dank ihres Erfindungsreichtums und ihrer Klugheit, entkamen sie aus der Stadt, nachdem bereits alle anderen Juden ermordet worden waren. Ohne Dokumente irrten Mutter und Kind auf Abwegen durch das besetzte Polen und gaben sich als polnische Flüchtlinge aus, bis sie schließlich Warschau erreichten. Unterwegs waren sie ständig in der Furcht, gefangen zu werden, Hunger, Kälte und Krankheit, der Herzlosigkeit gleichgültiger Menschen ausgesetzt. Doch es gab es auch Momente des Mitgefühls. Es war eine gefährliche und schwierige Flucht. Eine Christenfamilie warf sie aus ihrem Haus, als Mera sich mit der linken Hand bekreuzigte. Ein ukrainischer Spitzel verriet sie an die Polizei – der sichere Tod in Treblinka droht. Der Flüchtlingstrek geriet in einen Bombenhagel, und am ersten Tag nach der Befreiung wurde Mera auch noch der Kollaboration mit den Deutschen als schuldig befunden – ein Vergehen, das mit dem Tode bestraft wird.   Arieh Stav ist der Direktor des Ariel Center for Policy Research, einer überparteilichen Organisation, die sich der umfassenden Forschung und dem Studium von politischen und strategischen Fragen über Israel und das jüdische Volk widmet. Stav ist Herausgeber von „Nativ“, einer zweimonatlich erscheinenden Zeitschrift für Politik und Kunst, sowie Autor und Herausgeber zahlreicher Bücher und Studien. Er hat zahlreiche Bände mit epischen Gedichten aus verschiedenen Zeiten und in zahlreichen Sprachen ins Hebräische übersetzt.

        Manual Trigger Point Therapy and Dry Needling for Chronic Pain

        Myofascial medicine as an approach to an unresolved challenge

        by Beat Dejung

        Medicine for the relief of pain has made little progress in the last 50 years. 16% of our population claim to suffer from chronic pain, for which no lasting help can be found, despite years of treatment by different doctors. Trigger point therapy experts have integrated myofascial techniques into their everyday therapy in recent decades and through this they have achieved good results even with complex and chronic problems. In this book, instructors from the Interest Group for Myofascial Trigger Point Therapy (IMTT) in Switzerland present 33 complex cases of patients with chronic pain, whose pain they were able to relieve permanently with manual trigger point therapy and dry needling. Using these case studies, doublepage spreads with an educational, uniform layout clearly present the diagnosis, pathophysiology and chronifcation of myofascial pain syndromes and, in conclusion, describe encouraging and surprising successes despite previous therapy resistance.

        The unimagined community

        Imperialism and culture in South Vietnam

        by Duy Lap Nguyen

        The unimagined community proposes a reexamination of the Vietnam War from a perspective that has been largely excluded from historical accounts of the conflict, that of the South Vietnamese. Challenging the conventional view that the war was a struggle between the Vietnamese people and US imperialism, the study presents a wide-ranging investigation of South Vietnamese culture, from political philosophy and psychological warfare to popular culture and film. Beginning with a genealogy of the concept of a Vietnamese "culture," as the latter emerged during the colonial period, the book concludes with a reflection on the rise of popular culture during the American intervention. Reexamining the war from the South Vietnamese perspective, The unimagined community pursues the provocative thesis that the conflict, in this early stage, was not an anti-communist crusade, but a struggle between two competing versions of anticolonial communism.
