Our mission is to publish inspirational, quality books in the spirit of bibliodiversity, a concept developed by a group of Chilean independent publishers — Editores independientes de Chile. It encourages the celebration of a variety of voices from all over the world and prevents our publishing world from being a monolithic culture. Everyone has a story to tell. We want to be the ones to tell it. Consuelo’s Latin American roots play a huge role in our publishing today, with many of our books being translated into Spanish as stand alone or bilingual publications. Theodor Fontane wurde am 30.Dezember 1819 in Neuruppin geboren. Nach der Apothekerlehre publizierte er ab 1839 erste Novellen und Gedichte. Nach einem längeren Auslandsaufenthalt in London lebte Fontane ab 1849 als freier Schriftsteller in Berlin und arbeitete u.a. als Theaterrezensent für die Vossische Zeitung. Er starb am 20. September 1898 in Berlin.

Mobilizing for parliament, 1641–5

This book looks at London's provision of financial and military support for parliament's war against King Charles I. It explores for the first time a series of episodic, circumstantial and unique mobilisations that spanned from late 1641 to early 1645 and which ultimately led to the establishment of the New Model Army. Based on research from two-dozen archives, Civil war London charts the successes and failures of efforts to move London's vast resources and in the process poses a number of challenges to longstanding notions about the capital's 'parliamentarian' makeup. It reveals interactions between London's Corporation, parochial communities and livery companies, between preachers and parishioners and between agitators, propagandists and common people. Within these tangled webs of political engagement reside the untold stories of the movement of money and men, but also of parliament's eventual success in the English Civil War.

The second part contains concise, but readily understandable accounts of Old, Middle and Early New High German in terms of phonology, graphemics, morphology and syntax. Not only are synchronous descriptions given of the particular language period, but also the development of German language construction at all structural levels is explained. The association of grammatical synchrony and structural diachrony is a particular characteristic of this second part of Schmidt’s work on the history of language.

J'aime Berlin - Une touchante histoire d'après-guerre par Meir Sussman La roman "J'aime Berlin" (Ich habe mein Berlin Lieb publié en hébreu sous le titre "Ahavti et Berlin"), se concentre sur l'année 1985, et associe trois différentes histoires: la première est le retour des Juifs à Berlin après la Deuxième Guerre Mondiale. Certains de ces Juifs, les protagonistes de l'histoire, ont vécu à Berlin avant d'avoir été déportés au ghetto de Lodz en Pologne, et par la suite à Auschwitz. Ils retournent à Berlin après la guerre et y reconstruisent le Centre de la Communauté Juive, et content les querelles entre les officiels et le centre. La seconde histoire se concentre sur les flash-back de ces personnes habitant dans le ghetto de Lodz, alors que la troisième traite des privations des Allemands dans la ville divisée de Berlin après la guerre. Le roman expose deux histoires d'amour. L'une est celle d'un écrivain prétendant être juif, écrivant une pièce de théâtre en polonais sur les malheurs des juifs de Pologne au XVIIIème siècle. Il débarque à Berlin afin de faire traduire ses pièces en allemand et les mettre en scène devant un public allemand. L'écrivain tombe amoureux d'une jeune musicienne juive américaine venue à Berlin afin de tenter de participer au célèbre orchestre de Berlin; ses parents ont fuit Berlin pour les Etats-Unis avant la guerre. La seconde repose sur une histoire d'amour entre un "chasseur" de visage coloré identifiable par son chapeau de "chasse", et une femme locale issue de la classe ouvrière. L'apogée du roman se déroule lors du premier soir de la Pâques Juive (Seder Pessah), la cérémonie du repas traditionnel à la veille des vacances de Pâques. Lors de ce repas, les participants discutent de la foi des juifs ayant survécu à la guerre. L'invité, l'un des principaux personnages de l'histoire, évoque la Pâques 1941, célébrée en captivité dans le ghetto de Lodz. La question de savoir pourquoi les juifs ont décidé de retourner à Berlin et de reconstruire leur "vie", qui ressemble plus à une "mort vivante", est évoquée, mais reste sans réponse. L'histoire retrace le portrait vivant de la vie dans Berlin divisée et des changements dans la ville comme métropole d'avant-guerre et par la suite comme ville divisée. L'auteur décrit Berlin comme une "île" se délectant de sa beauté, où règnent côte à côte dans la privation, la faim, la soif, les veuves de guerre et les marchants de seconde main d'objets d'occasion, des générations d'agonisants. Meir Sussman est né à Jérusalem. Il a fait des études cinématographiques à New York et par la suite déménagea en Allemagne, ville dans laquelle il vit quatre ans et étudie la théologie à l'Université Libre de Berlin. Sussman a édité le film grandement critiqué Zacharias, écrit et réalisé par Irène Dische, racontant les malheurs d'un scientifique juif forcé de quitter l'Autriche et qui débarqua aux Etats-Unis en tant que réfugié. L'une des histoires courtes de Sussman, Die Bau-Maus, a été sélectionnée pour publication dans le Der Alltag, Zurich, en 1989 sous le nom de plume Max Katzenfuss. Young men and the digital economy

Digital technologies promise efficiency and comfort, but the smoothness of platform services relies on the hidden social labour of those who keep the gig economy running. This book presents a comparative ethnography of young men making a living through digital technologies: selling mobile airtime in Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire, and app-based delivery riders in Berlin, Germany. These case studies explore the significance of symbolic capital in urban youth's social existence and organisation of livelihood in the digital economy, and the technological mechanisms producing a new form of urban precarity. Globalized urban precarity in Berlin and Abidjan puts forward an original comparative approach to develop a global urban sociology for the digital era. It provides an innovative analytical toolbox that decentres discussions of precarity from the standard of a normal employment contract. With its focus on symbolic capital, the ethnography shows the consequences of the proliferating gig economy for status struggles among urban youth, and carefully embeds the densification of software and services into the socio-material relations on which these new urban infrastructures are built.

Während des NS-Regimes werden die jüdischen Protagonisten von Berlin zuerst in das Ghetto von Lodz und dann nach Auschwitz deportiert. Wir erfahren von der Zeit in Lodz und Auschwitz und wie sie nach Kriegsende in ihre Heimatstadt zurückkehren, um das jüdische Gemeindezentrum wieder aufzubauen. Im geteilten und zerstörten Nachkriegsberlin herrscht große Not. Ästhetik, Kultur und Komfort existieren Seite an Seite mit dem Elend der Stadt, mit den Betrunkenen, Bettlern, Kriegerwitwen und Händlern, die die Hinterlassenschaften der Überlebenden zu Geld machen. Die Protagonisten treffen sich Mitte der 80ger Jahre beim Pessach Seder (dem traditionellen jüdischen Mahl am Vorabend des Pessachfestes, mit dem die Befreiung von der Sklaverei und der Auszug der Juden aus Ägypten gefeiert wird) und diskutieren das Schicksal der überlebenden Juden. Der Gastgeber erinnert sich an das Fest 1941, das er im Ghetto von Lodz feiern mußte. Was hat die Überlebenden letztlich dazu bewegt, nach Berlin zurückzukehren und dort ein neues Leben aufzubauen ? Die Frage wird immer wieder gestellt, gibt es eine Antwort ? Die mannigfaltigen Veränderungen der Stadt von einer Weltstadt vor dem Krieg zu einer geteilten Insel zwischen Ost und West bis in das Berlin kurz vor der Wende werden aus der persönlichen Perspektive der Protagonisten lebendig. Meir Sussman, geb. in Jerusalem studierte Film (New York) und Theologie (Berlin). Er produzierte den erfolgreichen Film Zacharia (Deutschland 1985-86, Drehbuch und Regie: Irene Dische). Eine seiner Kurzgeschichten, Die Bau - Maus, wurde in der Zeitschrift Der Alltag (Zürich, 1989) unter dem Pseudonym Max Katzenfuß veröffentlicht. Der Autor hat neben mehreren preisgekrönten Theaterstücken auch zwei Kinderbücher veröffentlicht: Der tolle Koch (Jerusalem, 1997) sowie Benjamin der Gute und Benjamin der Böse (Jerusalem, 1999).
