View Rights PortalR is a freely available, open-source statistical programming environment which provides powerful statistical analysis tools and graphics outputs. R is now used by a very wide range of people; biologists (the primary audience of this book), but also all other scientists and engineers, economists, market researchers and medical professionals. R users with expertise are constantly adding new associated packages, and the range already available is immense. This text works through a set of studies that collectively represent almost all the R operations that biology students need in order to analyse their own data. The material is designed to serve students from first year undergraduates through to those beginning post graduate levels. Chapters are organized around topics such as graphing, classical statistical tests, statistical modelling, mapping, and text parsing. Examples are based on real scientific studies, and each one covers the use of more R functions than those simply necessary to get a p-value or plot. The book walks the reader through the data analysis process, starting with very simple plots, and continuing through more complex analyses and programming. It shows how to deal with issues such as error messages that can be confronting for beginners, in order to set students up for a successful scientific career using R.Collectively the authors have a vast amount of teaching experience which they apply here to make the passage into R programming as gentle and easy as possible, whilst guiding the reader to tackle quite complicated programming.
Taking a disease-based approach, Fish Viruses and Bacteria: Pathobiology and Protection focuses on the pathobiology of and protective strategies against the most common, major microbial pathogens of economically important marine and freshwater fish. The book covers well-studied, notifiable piscine viruses and bacteria, including new and emerging diseases which can become huge threats to local fish populations in new geographical regions if transported there via infected fish or eggs. A concise but thorough reference work, this book: - Covers key viral and bacterial diseases of notable fish species; - Reviews major well-established piscine pathogens as well as new, emerging and notifiable diseases; and - Contains the most up-to-date research contributed by a team of over fifty world experts. An invaluable bench book for fish health consultants, veterinarians and all those wanting instant access to information, this book is also a useful textbook for students specializing in fish health and research scientists initiating fish disease research programmes. ; Taking a disease-based approach, this book focuses on the pathobiology of and protective strategies against the most common, major microbial pathogens of economically important marine and freshwater fish. As a result of editions published in 1993 and 1997, the Rice Almanac has become a standard handbook that brings together general information about rice and data about rice production worldwide. The third edition has been fully updated and expanded to include more countries, and is the result of collaboration between the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI), West Africa Rice Development Association (WARDA), Centro Internacional de Agricultura Tropical (CIAT) and the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United States.

Paper on the Foot rot disease of Piper nigrum. L
In recent years the livestock sector has been hit by a number of high-profile diseases, such as BSE,Foot and Mouth Disease and Avian Influenza. These have had a devastating economic impact onlivestock producers and the broader livestock industry. One key response has been a growing interestin livestock disease insurance. However there is a need for greater understanding of private incentives, market impacts, and public policy perspectives on regional, national and international levels, if livestockinsurance products and complementary risk management programmes are to be developed. This book provides a balanced and broad-ranging overview of the economics of livestock diseaseinsurance. It covers both general issues and specific case studies drawn from the USA, Canada, Europeand Australia or focussing on specific issues. The book is unique in addressing this subject and willinterest readers in agricultural business and economics, veterinary science and the livestock sector.
