Victorina Press was created by  Consuelo Rivera-Fuentes, a Chilean-British writer and academic. We are therefore rooted strongly in Chilean and British cultures. Our mission is to publish inspirational, quality books in the spirit of bibliodiversity, a concept developed by a group of Chilean independent publishers — Editores independientes de Chile. It encourages the celebration of a variety of voices from all over the world and prevents our publishing world from being a monolithic culture. Everyone has a story to tell. We want to be the ones to tell it. Consuelo’s Latin American roots play a huge role in our publishing today, with many of our books being translated into Spanish as stand alone or bilingual publications. Publishing everything from hard-hitting, inspirational memoirs, thrilling YA dystopias, gripping historical fiction, fun early learning, colourful, exciting children's books, literature for the classic shelf, and poetry to entice you, there is one book for every genre!

        Vivien Leigh

        Actress and icon

by Kate Dorney, Maggie B. Gale

This edited volume provides new readings of the life and career of iconic actress Vivien Leigh (1913-67), written by experts from theatre and film studies and curators from the Victoria & Albert Museum, London. The collection uses newly accessible family archives to explore the intensely complex relationship between Vivien Leigh's approach to the craft of acting for stage and screen, and how she shaped, developed and projected her public persona as one of the most talked about and photographed actresses of her era. With key contributors from the UK, France and the US, chapters range from analyses of her work on stage and screen to her collaborations with designers and photographers, an analysis of her fan base, her interior designs and the 'public ownership' of Leigh's celebrity status during her lifetime and beyond.

Tourism Management in Warm-water Island Destinations

by Michelle McLeod, Robertico R Croes, David Airey, Sheree-Ann Adams, Donna Chambers, Anne P. Crick, Robertico R Croes, Frederic Dimanche, Rachel Dodds, Brigitte Joubert, Michelle McLeod, Jorge Ridderstaat, Manuel Rivera, Michael Sadowski, Neelu Seetaram, Kelly J. Semrad, Noel Scott

Warm-water islands are a cohesive group of islands distinguished by their geography and remoteness, history as former colonial territories, and dependence on external stakeholders for their economic and social development. Warm-water island destinations also have a year-round tourism industry. These island tourism destinations are facing unprecedented adjustment challenges in the wake of increasing globalization and susceptibility to external shocks, and are in search of appropriate policy responses to that globalization. It is critical for small islands to understand how these challenges affect tourism performance and how they impact their residents. Tourism Management in Warm-water Island Destinations unearths the critical aspects that contribute to tourism development and growth in islands. Particular emphasis is placed on destinations such as the Caribbean, with lessons learned that are applicable to other island tourism contexts in the Mediterranean, Indian Ocean and the Pacific. · Presents emerging research themes and methodology; · Provides insight into factors that result in successful and unsuccessful cases; · Features a focus on Cuba and its reintroduction to the tourism landscape. This book provides a platform for emerging systemic perspectives of the various aspects of island tourism, with the view that strategies for the management and development of tourism in island environments can be improved and will be of interest to those studying and researching within destination management.

Drama Scripts for People with Special Needs

        by Sheree Vickers

You may wish to use drama in a teaching or group situation but lack either the confidence to speak in character or the time to develop a role and/or workshop. This book solves both of these problems by providing the words to speak, an established well-worked lesson plan to use and an easy format to follow for multiple adaptations and future dramas. If you have experience of using drama, the ideas in this book will inspire and assist your creative lessons. Intensely practical and hands-on, this is a book of scripts and drama-workshop breakdowns designed especially for people with special needs, including those with PMLD or Autistic Spectrum Disorders. Each script format and workshop plan has been fully worked with groups of varying ages and abilities and includes valuable notes of experience - documenting lessons where the unexpected happened and how it was handled. As with any group of special people, getting to know their needs is paramount in order to gear the drama towards their specific requirements, however, these script formats are guaranteed to work even on a first meeting! Just follow the script as written or substitute the characters and situations themselves to create limitless drama possibilities.

Women, Film, and Law: Cinematic Representations of Female Incarceration

        Cinematic Representations of Female Incarceration

        by Suzanne Bouclin

Women, Film, and Law convincingly argues that popular depictions of women’s imprisonment can illuminate the multiple forms of social exclusion and oppression experienced by criminalized women. And the creative influence of film and television also generates legal meaning.   Focusing on five exemplary women-in-prison genre films and a television series — Ann Vickers (1933), Caged (1950), Caged Heat (1974), Stranger Inside (2001), Civil Brand (2002), and Orange is the New Black (2013–present) — Women, Film, and Law asks how fictional representations explore, shape, and refine beliefs about women who are incarcerated. From melodrama to exploitation, and from theatre screenings to on-demand film, television programs, and music videos, these texts bring into view the legal, economic, and political structures that criminalize women differently from men, and that target those women who are already marginalized.

        Cien noches (A hundred nights)

        by Luisgé Martín

HERRALDE PRIZE 2020 - Approximately half of us confess to being sexually unfaithful to our partners. But are the other half telling the truth or are they lying?   There is only one way to find out: use private detectives or electronic surveillance to observe their lives. This novel proposes an anthropological experiment: to monitor six thousand people without their consent, so that we finally have reliable data about sexual behaviour in our societies. Irene, the novel’s protagonist, is searching for the secrets of the human soul in our sexuality. She travels from Madrid to Chicago to study psychology, and there, far from her family, she embarks upon a scientific analysis of the men she meets and the men she sleeps with. Her cold investigator’s gaze changes, however, when she falls in love with an Argentinian, Claudio, who has a painful secret and whose family has a dark past linked to his country’s history. Cien noches is a novel about the human heart, an exploration of our erotic lives, and the tale of police attempts to track down a murderer who has left no trace of his crime. Cien noches explores the different forms love can take, including its most radical and extreme versions, and the variety of our sexual behaviours, some of which are similarly radical and extreme. It records the loyalty, the infidelity, the unmentionable desires, taboos, half-truths and deceptions that are an essential part of our relationships. It talks of masks and lies. And it playfully incorporates a series of adultery case studies written for Luisgé Martín by Edurne Portela, Manuel Vilas, Sergio del Molino, Lara Moreno and José Ovejero, in a thought-provoking exercise in literary promiscuity.
