        Conscious Feelings

Living Life Closer to Your Own Truth

        by Clinton Callahan

This book is about feelings, and the ways that we, as individuals and as a culture, have numbed ourselves against them. It is about unleashing the possibility of conscious feelings to re-make our lives into what really matters to us. The central framework of the book is built with the Ten Distinctions for Consciously Feeling, including: *Learning the potent difference between thoughts and feelings, which most people confuse *Sorting out feelings (based in the present) from emotions (based in the past or in somebody else’s life) *Fully allowing that feelings are absolutely-neutral energy and information, neither good nor bad, neither positive nor negative. Each chapter is enriched with Thoughtmaps—clear diagrams of ways we presently think and ways we could possibly think—and supported by an abundance of practical experiments to try. The Power of Conscious Feelings is so much more than a book of selfhelp or inspiration. Ultimately, it is about our connection with and responsibility for the fate of the Earth.

        Who Grows in the Garden

by Kateryna Mikhalitsyna (Author), Oksana Bula (Illustrator)

The nightingale has returned from distant Africa and is looking for a spot to build its nest. And there are so many trees and bushes in the garden to chose from! Which of them would make a good home for a bird? Maybe a sour cherry tree, or a sweet cherry tree... or perhaps even a cherry plum tree? And what about a plum, or a pear tree? Each tree tells its story to the nightingale, describing its own special traits. What emerges from the stories of the trees is the image of the old gardener, clever and kind, who treats the trees as living creatures, talks to them and cherishes them greatly, along with his family, still living in the nearby house, honoring the trees and collecting their fruit.     From 3 to 6 years,  2515 words Rightsholders: ivan.fedechko@starlev.com.ua

Development, architecture, and the formation of heritage in late twentieth-century Iran

        A vital past

        by Ali Mozaffari, Nigel Westbrook

This book analyses the use of the past and the production of heritage through architectural design in the developmental context of Iran, a country that has endured radical cultural and political shifts in the past five decades. Offering a trans-disciplinary approach toward complex relationship between architecture, development, and heritage, Mozaffari and Westbrook suggest that transformations in developmental contexts like Iran must be seen in relation to global political and historical exchanges, as well as the specificities of localities. The premise of the book is that development has been a globalizing project that originated in the West. Transposed into other contexts, this project instigates a renewed historical consciousness and imagination of the past. The authors explore the rise of this consciousness in architecture, examining the theoretical context to the debates, international exchanges made in architectural congresses in the 1970s, the use of housing as the vehicle for everyday heritage, and forms of symbolic public architecture that reflect monumental time.

Yitzhak Rabin – The Growth of A Leader

        by Shaul Webber

“Even before Yitzhak Rabin was assassinated, I always saw him as an enigmatic hero,” writes the author Dr. Shaul Weber. This enigma only intensified after his assassination. Rabin’s appearances in the media and the testimony given by those close to him reflected a complexity that could not be ignored. Always surrounded by others, he stood out as an emotionally distant loner. A politician who projected unease with the political norms, and basically a man of integrity and morality, he was nevertheless willing to stray from his ideals in the interests of national security. Despite his undiplomatic image, he became a senior diplomat and national leader. Rabin, emotionally withdrawn, shy and blunt throughout his formative years, demanded uncompromising perfection from himself and others. Blessed with impressive analytic capabilities, he demonstrated the qualities of leadership, even when not quite ready to assume the onerous mantle of military leadership when that role was forced on him by circumstances beyond his control. In his early days with the Palmach, Rabin comes across as a man who glorified camaraderie, but who was lonely, shy and unable to communicate. Although he spoke in terms of “we,” he closed himself off from others, putting up barriers of individualism and fastidiousness. Cool and analytic, he paradoxically had a hot temper and was known to speak bluntly, even offensively. However, in the latter years of his life, he learned to better express his feelings and project more warmth. As an educator and historian, Dr. Webber assumes that every human being is a product of his childhood and upbringing, which offers only partial solutions to the riddle of Rabin’s boyhood, his adolescence, and his painful ordeal as commander of the Harel Brigade during Israel's 1948 War of Independence. Throughout his life, and especially after his death, Rabin was said to be the “salt of the earth.” It appears, however, that in order to earn this noble title, one has to eat a lot of bitter herbs, too. This book is about those bitter herbs. Each year the president and the prime minister of Israel present prizes – usually to writers – for the best works related to one of each of their predecessors. This year the prize winner for memorizing Yitzhak Rabin was Dr. Shaul Weber for his book The Growth of a Leader, which follows Rabin’s path from childhood through to his youth in the Palmah and subsequently in the army, and sheds fresh light on what influenced Rabin’s growth as a military leader, a diplomat and a political leader. Shaul Webber was born in Tel Aviv. After his army service, he joined Kibbutz Ha'on nearby the Kinneret (the Sea of Galilee). When the Six-Day War was over he joined Kibbutz Merom Golan in the Golan Heights, and worked there as an educator and teacher. The author received his B.A. in philosophy and education from the Hebrew University in Jerusalem, an M.A. in education from Haifa University, and his Ph.D. from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. Today he lives in Ramat Gan and teaches education and history at the Open University. This is Dr. Webber’s third book. His first book, A Blue Shirt on a Black Background, was published in 1998 and describes how the youth movements in Eretz Israel related to the Diaspora during and after the Holocaust. His second book, Mystery Hill, published in 2003, analyzes the famous battle of Ammunition Hill from his personal point of view as a soldier who participated in that terrible bloodshed, as well as from the perspective of a researcher and historian. His recently published book, The Spy Who Was Forgotten, is about Major Max Bennett – one of Israel's most controversial and tragic undercover agents, a brilliant intelligence officer who was recklessly involved by his superiors in the notoriously failed secret operation in Egypt in the early 50s, and who tragically ended his life there in a prison cell. An English-language eBook edition was published in spring 2013 by Samuel Wachtman's Sons, Inc., CA.) 374 Pages, 15 x 22.5 cm.

Youth and the Rural Economy in Africa

        Hard Work and Hazard

by James Sumberg, Jordan Chamberlin, Barbara Crossouard, Máiréad Dunne, Justin Flynn, Marjoke Oosterom, Carolina Szyp, Dorte Thorsen, Felix Kwame Yeboah, Thomas Yeboah

This book brings together recent findings from quantitative and qualitative research from across Africa to illuminate how young men and women engage with the rural economy, imagine their futures and how development policies and interventions find traction (or not) with these realities. Through framing, overview and evidence-based chapters, it provides a critical perspective on current discourse, research and development interventions around youth and rural development. It is organised around commonly-made foundational claims: that large numbers of young people are leaving rural areas; have no interest in agriculture; cannot access land; are stuck in permanent waithood; that the rural economy provides (or can provide) a wealth of opportunity; and that they can be the engine of rural transformation. It draws from existing literature and new analysis arising from several multi-country and multi-disciplinary studies, focusing on gender and other aspects of social difference. It is a major contribution to current debates and development policy about youth, agriculture and employment in rural Africa.

Tourism Planning and Development in Western Europe

by Konstantinos Andriotis, Carla Pinto Cardoso, Dimitrios Stylidis

For many decades, Western European countries have undertaken diverse pathways in tourism development and planning. Most have experienced fast or even unlimited growth, resulting in overtourism and, now, the introduction of policies that respect the limits of communities and the sustainability of their resources. Focusing exclusively on tourism development, planning and policy, this book draws together new voices to discuss issues across Belgium, Denmark, Faroe Islands, Finland, France, Germany, Greenland, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Malta, Norway, Portugal, Spain, Sweden and the UK. It: - Provides both successful and unsuccessful case studies to illuminate real, practical solutions, developed by tourism scholars who are experts in their researched context countries. - Adopts a range of methodological approaches to cover diverse and less-covered areas such as industrial tourism, saltpans, natural and cultural heritage, and micro-destinations. - Considers post-COVID tourism and the significant role of tourism stakeholders in Western Europe's re-development. An invaluable collection for policy-makers, researchers and academics, this book is also an insightful source of engaging contemporary case studies for use in the classroom.

        Development with Identity

Community, Culture and Sustainability in the Andes

by Edited by Robert E Rhoades

Throughout Latin America, indigenous peoples are demanding that development must address local priorities, including ethnic identity. Simultaneously, sustainability scientists need to conduct place-based research on the interaction between environment and society that will have global relevance. This book reports on a 6 year interdisciplinary research project on natural resource management in Cotacachi, Ecuador, where scientists and indigenous groups learnt to seek common ground. The book discusses how local people and the environment have engaged each other over time to create contemporary Andean landscapes. It also explores human-environment interaction in relation to biodiversity, soils and water, and equitable development. This book will be of significant interest to sociologists, anthropologists, economists and sustainability scientists researching environment and agriculture in rural communities.
