Sie übersetzt Literatur und wissenschaftliche Schriften französischsprachiger Autoren ins Deutsche, u.a. von Claude Simon, Jorge Semprún, Marcel Mauss, Mircea Eliade, Gilles Deleuze und Lévi-Strauss. Sie wurde mit zahlreichen Preisen ausgezeichnet: 1982 'Helmut-M.-Braem-Preis', 1991 'Celan-Preis'. Claude Simon, geboren am 10. Oktober 1913 auf Madagaskar, gilt als Vertreter des "Nouveau Roman". Er starb am 6. Juli 2005 in Paris. 1985 erhielt er den Nobelpreis für Literatur.
