Founded under lockdown in 2020, Sharp Rights publishing consultancy handles rights for independent publishers, agencies and authors, including The bks Agency, HopeRoad Publishing, Fledgling Press, FROM YOU TO ME, Little Island and Fine Feather Press. Founder Andrew Sharp is the former group rights director at Hachette Children's Group in London. He was The Bookseller Rights Professional of the Year in 2019. Our main focus is selling translation and English language rights for children's books. We also handle general trade titles. We are seeking publisher clients who require representation. We are interested to hear from publishers of adult fiction and non-fiction, children's non-fiction and picture books. We are particularly keen to hear from publishers whose lists focus on under-represented communities.

How do you imagine the Arabs before Islam? People who drink alcohol, milk goats, and fight each other for trivial reasons? Or perhaps you imagine them ignorant in an environment of darkness and sand? In this short story collection, Ahmad Lufti presents a fresh picture of the Arabian Peninsula before Islam, its legends and poets, its kings and its oral traditions. Inspired by the storytelling form of Scheherazade in “One Thousand and One Nights”—in which one narrator tells a story about another narrator, and another—as well as traditional Arab tales, Lufti’s stories explore and exalt Arab history and culture as well as larger themes of love, weakness, and power. Commentary from the Author: I am trying to reintroduce prose in Arab stories, as an attempt to praise authors whose books were highly underestimated. These works of art were deeply criticized for focusing on the pre-Islamic era or for adopting a classical rigid style. It is crucial to revive Arab stories, this pristine and rich field that would never fail to exist, even if all authors were to perish. This has proven of importance in modern stories, which are the reflection of the contemporary human. How can we refute modern stereotypes, if Arab literature is absent from today’s books?

Enrique from Malacca is a man of Malay descent who participated in Ferdinand Magellan's voyage around the world. Enrique became a slave of the Portuguese explorer, Ferdinand Magellan in 1511 at the age of 14 when the Portuguese colonized Malacca. Enrique is documented to have traveled with Magellan from Malacca to Cebu in two segments, namely from Malacca to Portugal in 1511, and from Spain to Cebu from 1519 to 1521. Enrique's name is recorded in the list of names of the main crew in the voyage to the Moluccas led by Magellan, which is Trinidad.Some historians argue that it is possible that Enrique was the first person to circumnavigate the globe and return to his starting point. However, there are no records or sources to confirm this. Is it true that Enrique was the first Malay to circumnavigate the world?

The hero of the book is a boy called Shawa, who is good friends with the magpies on a white poplar. He has been curious about the magpies' nest and wanted to know what it looks like inside, but he has never had a chance. Finally, his curiosity is satisfied after the white poplar is destroyed by a sandstorm and then falls. Surprisingly, there is water, the source of life, inside the nest where magpies fly away and their eggs are broken. Nature gives Shawa a life lesson with its double face of tenderness and grimness. The book, with its concise and powerful narrative and liberal painting style, integrates paintings with texts, in which the scenery of the northwest, the mighty power of nature, and the simplicity and warmth of personal relationships have all been vividly expressed. It makes readers consider the relationship between humanity and nature from a small but large perspective: humans are both small and great in a harsh natural environment. Only by respecting nature and learning to live in harmony with nature can we have a peaceful and happy life. This book is a beautiful hymn to nature and humanity.
