        PREMICES D'AMOUR SANS DETOUR

        LES POEMES ET BIOGRAPHIE

        by NZABA Arafat

      • "Tales of Khanka"

        by Yasser Allam

The novel "Tales of Khanka" provides us with a synthesis of the history of an Egyptian family that emigrates from their village to find themselves leading the establishment of a "leprosy colony" in Khanka. The immigration adventure turns into a leap into a new world ruled by bureaucracy they will have to face in order to build their community.   Without advancing officially in the formal ranks, the women of the family lead the establishment of this new world: building houses, marrying children, and determining the fate of husbands. Grandmothers and mothers appear strong and practical, while men are dreamy and adventurous, going through life as if it was a game to win by simply playing it and taking chances. The Stories cover more than six decades: starting before the 1919 revolution until 1973 war, which opens the door for  new events. The author takes us in a narrative adventure that leaves us full entertained, amused and challenged to ask question. He does that using a writing style closest to the verbal story telling: one that ranges between the personal and the general, between the subjective and the collective,.  Yasser Allam is a writer, theater critic and lecturer at the Academy of Arts. He has published several plays that have been translated into more than one language. He participated in training and founding more than one creative writing workshop. He participated in many local and international scientific conferences with research papers on the techniques of writing and the function of creative practice, and "stories of Khanka" is His first novel.

Geomatics in Energy and Water Resources

by SM. Ramasamy & S.Thillai Govindarajan

Due to unprecedented growth in population and the resultant massive mining of energy resources, especially the non-renewable resources and also water resources, these resources have gradually become scarce commodities. Hence the geoscientists and the technocrats from all over the world have embarked into many fold research programmes for locating newer reservoirs of these resources and also to develop models to conserve and sustainably exploit them. remoAs this involves the total understanding of the rock types, tectonic architecture, geomorphology and reservoir conditions, the Geomatics technology comprising Remote Sensing, Geographic Information System (GIS), etc have been found to be vital tools in the inventory and management of these resources; While the former due to its synoptivity, multispectral nature and repeativity and the latter by virtue of its capability to store, manipulate and model huge volume of spatial and non-spatial data. Divergent geological provinces and processes are brought out deserving concepts and methods on geology, 3D visualization of subsurface lineaments, SRTM based lineament mapping, spatio-linear modeling of hard rock aquifer systems, 3D visualization of oil bearing structures, etc., both as field geologists and as researchers.

Music against walls in the Arab-Israeli conflict

        by Ana Arambarri

With an agile, precise and sustained style Música Contra los Muros explores the influence of music on the human being in extreme circumstances. Different choral voices immerse the reader in the geopolitical labyrinth of the Middle East and tell a true and little-known story: that of famous musicians who canceled all their commitments and voluntarily traveled to Israel to encourage their compatriots who were fighting at the front. Against this backdrop, suggestive narrative threads are woven: the passionate romance of the pianist Daniel Barenboim with the cellist Jacqueline du Pré during the Six Day War; the account of Israeli soldiers, whose voices were censored for forty years, forced to participate in a war in which they did not believe; or the torn lives of thousands of Palestinians who, since the occupation, lost the right to a decent and dignified life. Hand in hand with a narrative strategy that recalls the New Journalism that emerged in the sixties, a reconciliation proposal is offered: the case of the West-Eastern Divan orchestra, made up of Arab, Israeli and Palestinian musicians, shows that thanks to music, coexistence is possible. Edward Said, a Palestinian thinker and philosopher, asked himself: Who knows how far we are going to be able to change the thoughts and convictions of these young people thanks to music? The energy of this interrogation continues to challenge the possibilities of the present, while confirming the success of an experience as unusual as it is fascinating.
