Kaaljayi Kambakth (The Time-Conqueror Wretch)
Diary of a Time-keeper
by Amit Dutta
Sham is a precocious schoolboy who dreams about making sense of the world he inhabits. Shaman, his friend and alter-ego prods him along. They walk together exploring the gullies and outskirts of their suburban hill village. They passionately glean whatever information is available to them through books or people. They make patterns out of this information and scheme to gain control over their reality. The villagers become characters in their scheme and start revealing the cracks in their reality. As fragments of science, philosophy, fairy-tales, folk-legends and history start seeping into their everyday existence, Sham and Shan find themselves deep in an unmanageable world of their own fantasies.

Verlorener Kontinent
Gedichte
by Natan Zach, Ehud Alexander Avner

VOICES from the UNDERGROUND
Select Naxalite Documents 1965-71
by Amit Bhattacharyya
Naxalbari exploded many a myth. The upheaval was such that nothing remained the same after Naxalbari. People had to readjust their position vis-a-vis every aspect of the system, political, administrative, military, cultural ”— Samar Sen. How prophetic was the above statement! A section of the toiling masses still keeps hope in the undying spirit of the movement. The Government, on the other, is pursuing administrative, legal, and military policies to contain the discontent of the teeming multitudes. This volume is the first in the series where select documents of the Naxalbari movement as well as thought-provoking debates are compiled. The present volume contains seventeen documents written by the pioneers of the first stage of the movement– articles of Charu Mazumder, Saroj Dutta, Suniti Kumar Ghosh, and Sushital Roychowdhury. General readers, activists, scholars, and policymakers will find this volume a ready reference for the study of the movement and its inherent dynamics.

The ‘Spring Thunder’ and Kolkata
An epic story of courage and sacrifice 1965-72
by Amit Bhattacharya
The city of Kolkata was known as a city of processions and demonstrations until the ‘Spring Thunder’ crashed over Naxalbari in 1967. Since then, this historic city–shot down many a time–witnessed a saga of heroic struggles, undying revolutionary optimism and self-sacrifice. Inspired by Mao Tse-tung Thought and Charu Mazumdar, radical youth, students and workers rebelled against reaction to ‘make the ’70s the decade of Liberation’ in a way never seen before or after. This is the first modest attempt at writing the history of the city during that tumultuous phase. It includes rare photographs of activists, buildings and columns of importance and cover pages of original Party booklets and leaflets.

Storming The Gates Of Heaven
The Maoist Movement in India A Critical Study 1972-2014
by AMIT BHATTACHARYA
The Maoist movement in India is one of the longest surviving communist revolutionary movements in the history of the world. Born in 1967, has been able to withstand state brutality for so long and rose like a phoenix from the ashes time and again implies the existence of some deep-rooted socio-economic needs that the existing system has failed to satisfy. Today, every protest is identified with ‘Maoism’, every dissident voice is being branded by the powers-that-be and sections of the corporate media as ‘Maoist’. ‘Maoism’ in India has, for good or bad, been identified with the fight for dignity, justice and human values. This is a modest attempt at the first-ever comprehensive history of the movement made by a professional historian. This movement is not the tale of’senseless violence, but an epic story to create a beautiful world free from exploitation, greed and bloodshed altogether. Hitherto untapped material has been used to analyze the bitter struggle between MCC and CPI(MLI Party Unity and CPI(MLI People’s War and the formation of the CPI(Maoist). Its impact on society, culture and historical study, Bhojpur struggle role of woman warriors with entirely new approaches to man-woman relationships radical mass organizations. Emergence of Maoism and the pro-people development model in Dandakaranya have been discussed in detail. This movement, successful, is likely to make a deep impression everywhere in India and abroad. A chapter on Primary Sources, rare photographs of places–Naxalbari killing, Charu Mazumdar’s residence, of cover pages of forbidden literature and a list of departed woman activists further enriched the quality of the book. The main title of the book is borrowed from Karl Marx who hailed the Communards of Paris for daring to”Storm the Gates of Heaven” in 1871.

The book entitledis aimed to cater to the growing demand of academia, researchers and commercial ventures. Altogether there are forty four s divided into the following broad sections like 1. Bioinformatics, Genomics and Proteomics, 2. Phylogeny 3. Drug Design and Epigenomics 4. Advanced Computational Tools and Techniques 5. Statistical methods for computational biology, data mining and visualization 6. Socio Economics and Ethics. This book presents the foundations of key problems in computational molecular biology and bioinformatics. It contains basic molecular biology concepts, tools, techniques and ways to measure sequence similarity, presents simple applications of searching sequence databases. After introducing methods for aligning multiple biological sequences and genomes, the text explores applications of the phylogenetic tree, methods for comparing phylogenetic trees, the problem of gene expression and motif finding. Interestingly, it is attempted to introduce computational biology without formulas that presents the biological and computational ideas in a relatively simple manner. It focuses on computational and statistical principles applied to genomes, and introduces the computational statistics that are crucial for understanding and visualization of problems. This makes the material accessible to Statistician and computer scientists without biological training, as well as to biologists with limited background in Statistics and computer science. Furthermore one has been exclusively devoted to computational biology and computational statistics as applied in biotechnology illustrated with methodology, application and interpretation of results. More than four hundred figures, illustrations and diagrams reinforce concepts and present key results from the primary literature that will be very much useful to grasp on the subject, visualize the output and make right interpretation of the result. The book will be useful for all those working in Biotechnology sector in general and particularly researchers working in the laboratories of ICAR, CSIR, SAUs and many more institutions engaged R&D activities.

Sock on the Loose
by Julianna Mrena, Dorottya Szert-Szabó
There was once a sock. There was no other half. And there were a lot of problems with it anyway. Worn only occasionally, but mostly never. And it's no wonder, really.Julianna Mrena, the author of The Tale of the Little Sloth Who Wouldn't Go to Sleep, has this time put into rhyme the adventures of a lovable half pair of socks to show that there is a place in the world for everyone, where they are recognised and accepted for who they are. Dorottya Szert-Szabó's colourful, clownish pictures are a worthy companion to the text of the tale.
