        The Arts

A Millennium from the Perspective of Arts – China in Classical Paintings (6 Volumes)

        by Li Shubo

A Millennium from the Perspective of Arts – China in Classical Paintings tells the stories of China from paintings of different ages. It consists of six volumes, covering the Northern Song Dynasty, the Southern Song Dynasty, the Yuan Dynasty, the Ming Dynasty, the Qing Dynasty, and the Republic of China. By introducing the details of the works and observing the artists' creative mentality, the book not only tells the big pictures of politics, military, economy, technology, and humanity in different historical periods, but also shows the daily life and aesthetics of ancient China.   As a Norwegian Chinese cultural scholar, the author Li Shubo adopts a special perspective in the book by combining the achievements of overseas Chinese studies with contemporary archaeology and art history, and uses simple language presenting a comprehensive, profound and thought-provoking picture of Chinese civilization.

        Love and revolution

A politics for the deep commons

        by Matt York

Based on award-winning research, Love and revolution brings classical and contemporary anarchist thought into a mutually beneficial dialogue with a global cross-section of ecological, anti-capitalist, feminist and anti-racist activists - discussing real-life examples of the loving-caring relations that underpin many contemporary struggles. Such a (r)evolutionary love is discovered to be a common embodied experience among the activists contributing to this collective vision, manifested as a radical solidarity, as political direct action, as long-term processes of struggle, and as a deeply relational more-than-human ethics. This book provides an essential resource for all those interested in building a free society grounded in solidarity and care, and offers a timely contribution to contemporary movement discourse.

The Complete Collection of Modern Chinese Prints by Lu Xun

by Editorial Board of the Complete Works of Modern Chinese Prints Collected by Lu Xun

This series contains about 1,800 modern prints collected by Lu Xun at that time, which authored by nearly 200 domestic printmakers and currently in the Lu Xun Memorial Hall in Shanghai and the Lu Xun Museum in Beijing. It is showcasing the glorious history of modern Chinese woodcut art: In the 1920s and 1930s, in order to guide the artistic direction of Chinese literary youth, smashed the KMT’s counter-revolutionary cultural " encirclement and suppression", Mr. Lu Xun held a "woodcut workshop" in Shanghai, and cultivated a group of emerging woodcut backbone. These backbones led young artists in various regions of the country to create a large number of realistic works reflecting the suffering and tragic fate of the people at the bottom of the society at that time. They cruelly lashed the dark reality of society and called for national salvation and survival. These young woodcutters sent their woodcut works to Lu Xun, who not only guided their creation personally, but also spared no effort to collect, publicize and promote them to the public. With the active advocacy and support of Mr. Lu Xun, the emerging woodcut movement in China has developed vigorously, driving the modernization of Chinese art and leaving an indelible glorious footprint in the history of Chinese modern culture and art. This complete collection is a companion to the The Complete Collection of Foreign Prints by Lu Xun published in 2014.

Classic of Mountains and Rivers for Teenagers, Book III

        Gorgeous Stories and Myths

        by Liu Xingshi

The Classic of Mountains and Rivers, also known as Shan Hai Jing, has been regarded as a "strange book" since its appearance in China pre-Qin Dynasty. On the basis of its title, most people would assume that it is a survey record of ancient geography, but its descriptions of the "mountains and rivers" include encyclopedic entries—such as animals, plants, minerals, religion, history, medicine, customs, and ethnic groups. Also, it gives accounts of many folk legends of mythic geography, monsters, and witchcraft. No matter labeled as a book of geography, a book of history, or a book of strange stories, it is a Chinese ancient classic that deserves to be read over and over again.   But as a book compiled about 2,500 to 3,000 years ago, its context and words are difficult to understand for modern readers. The Classic of Mountains and Rivers for Teenagers series is just designed to make this classic more understandable and readable. It illustrates the most essential parts of the Classic of Mountains and Rivers with simple words, animated illustrations, and interdisciplinary approaches, and introduces young readers to the understandings of Chinese ancestors on land and nature. Not only is it a book series for teenagers, but also an encyclopedia of traditional Chinese geography and culture for adults.   Gorgeous Stories and Myths is the third book of the Classic of Mountains and Rivers for Teenagers series. It presents the extracts of myths in the Classic of Mountains and Rivers and the stories related to them, including "The Mythical Bird Jingwei Trying to Fill Up the Sea with Pebbles", "Houyi Shooting Down Nine Suns", and "Kuafu Racing with the Sun". In order to find what is behind the myths, the author probes into the history, nature, geography and culture of ancient China. It inspires the young readers, opens up their views and encourages them to explore the origin of China's myths and how they had grown.
