Louis Althusser Gesammelte Schriften Band 3 Herausgegeben von Frieder Otto Wolf in den Verlagen Westfälisches Dampfboot, VSA und Suhrkamp Louis Althussers 1965 in Frankreich erschienener Band Pour Marx (dt. Für Marx, 1968 im Suhrkamp Verlag) revolutionierte die linke Theorie. Althusser brach mit dem ökonomischen Determinismus seiner Zeit und analysierte kapitalistische Herrschaft als ein Verhältnis, in das auch die Unterdrückten verstrickt sind. Seine Gedanken zur Überdeterminierung, sowie spätere zur »Anrufung« des Subjekts, zu den »Ideologischen Staatsapparaten« und zur Philosophie als »Klassenkampf in der Theorie« sind unter anderem von Judith Butler, Michel Foucault, Chantal Mouffe und Antonio Negri aufgegriffen und fortgeführt worden. Sämtliche Beiträge der französischen Ausgabe sind hier erstmals gesammelt auf deutsch, in durchgesehenen und teilweise neuen Übersetzungen verfügbar, versehen mit einem ausführlichen Nachwort. Louis Althusser (1918-1990) war einer der einflussreichsten marxistischen Theoretiker des 20. Jahrhunderts. Er war Lehrer von Michel Foucault, Jacques Derrida, Nicos Poulantzas, Bernard-Henri Lévy, Jacques Rancière und Étienne Balibar.

Michael D. Friedman's second edition of this stage history of Shakespeare's Titus Andronicus adds an examination of twelve major theatrical productions and one film that appeared in the years 1989-2009. Friedman identifies four lines of descent in the recent performance history of the play: the stylised, realistic, darkly comic, and political approaches, which culminate in Julie Taymor's harrowing film Titus (1999). Aspects of Taymor's eclectic vision of ancient Rome under the grip of modern fascism were copied by several subsequent productions, making Titus the most characteristic, as well as the most influential, contemporary performance of the play. Friedman's work extends Alan Dessen's original study to include Taymor's film, along with chapters devoted to the efforts of international directors including Gregory Doran, Silviu Purcarete, and Yukio Ninagawa.

They fan out over his wrecking ball and every time it swings they do their best to absorb the shock. The day comes when the worn-out springs turn to the Wise Old Crane for help. Tumbledown can never be a cement mixer, but maybe there are other ways, better suited to his nature. After some search, the Wise Old Crane finds a new job for Tumbledown at a construction site using his wrecking ball to smooth out the cement on the ground. It’s hard work but Tumbledown is finally happy, and he grows stronger and more skillful with every passing day.

The other inhabitants of the city ostracize her because she has become different from them. It is not long before they ask her to leave the City of Hats. Rather than giving up or getting angry, Hatless feels sad for her friends and neighbors who are afraid to experience the world outside of their hats. She comes up with an ingenious solution: if given another chance, she will wear a hat as long it is one she makes herself. The people of the City of Hats agree, so Hatless weaves a hat that covers her head and face but does not prevent her from seeing the outside world. She offers to loan the hat to the other inhabitants of the city. One by one, they try it on and are enchanted by the beautiful world around them. Since then, no child has been born wearing a hat. The people celebrate by tossing their old hats in the air. By bravely embracing these values, Hatless improves her own life and the lives of her fellow citizens. Buti’s language is eloquent and clear. She strikes a skilled narrative balance between revealing Hatless’s inner thoughts and letting the story unfold through her interactions with other characters. Careful descriptions are accompanied by beautiful illustrations that reward multiple readings of the book.

This report reviews the energy and protein requirement systems for dairy cows currently used in Britain and presents a new approach, along with the outline of a model for its implementation. Current systems give little consideration to the responses of the animal to changes in the nutrient supply, or to interactions between dietary constituents in their effects on digestion and metabolism. Neither do they predict any effect on the partition of nutrient use between milk and body, or changes in the yields of milk fat, protein and lactose, which determine the commercial value of the milk. Therefore the systems, although not inaccurate, lack relevance to the current needs of UK milk producers. Models which embody concepts of nutrient supply and utilization are reviewed and their development as viable alternatives is considered. It is concluded that a new diet formulation system for dairy cows should aim to predict voluntary feed intake, the partition of nutrient use between milk production and tissue deposition, and the short and long-term of effects of nutrition on fat, protein and lactose yields. The physical and biological characteristics of the cow must also be recognized and incorporated into any model for response prediction. The report is also published in Nutrition Abstracts and Reviews - Series B: Livestock Feeds and Feeding. It is an authoritative review for advanced students, research workers and advisors in animal nutrition and in dairy science and technology.
