        Lucy and Mum's Shoes

        by Emily Child

        Lucy and Mum's Shoes (written by Emily Child and illustrated by Warwick Kay) is the story a girl who hears the world a little differently. She is fascinated by the sounds around her, especially the sound of shoes. She dreams of a life where she is surrounded by high-heels. She dreams of being grown-up. Feeling brave one morning, Lucy sneaks into her mother’s cupboard and tries on her favourite pair of stilettos. An unusual and dreamlike day of high-heeled hope, happiness and hindrance follows, leaving Lucy a little less certain that she wants to feel grown-up after all… Lucy invites children (and adults) to be a part of her unique and quirky soundscape. Infused with a surreal eccentricity, this story uncovers what it means to “love the shoes you’re in”.

        Zen

        Aussprüche und Verse der Zen-Meister

        by Peter Weber-Schäfer, Peter Weber-Schäfer

        Was ist Zen?

        Craft

        by Shi Bin, Ren Qiongjin

        This is a manuscript that focuses on the survival and inheritance of traditional craftsmen in Hunan. From February 2016 to December 2018, which lasted 3 years, the author searched for 40 folk craftsmen in Hunan, and conducted personal interviews with these craftsmen who insisted on traditional craftsmanship, and recorded the inheritance and adherence to traditions with text and photos. Huxiang craftsman spirit of craftsmanship. The interviewees are roughly divided into two categories, one is with a family history, the longest being up to 9 generations; the other is a lifelong apprenticeship. They are all handmade and do not rely on large-scale machinery and equipment at all. Among the interviewees, 20 have entered the “intangible cultural heritage” list at the national, provincial, municipal, and district levels, and have a certain social reputation and status, such as Long Jitang, a silverware maker in Xiangxi, and a ceramic smelter in Changsha Tongguan. Liu Zhiguang; The remaining 20 are folk traditional craftsmen, pure craft earners scattered in the streets and lanes, such as the incense maker who follows the traditional manufacturing method and the last knifeman in the river. Among them are the elderly, the middle-aged, and those born in the 1980s who are dedicated to traditional craftsmanship. Some of the projects interviewed have developed prosperously, some have few successors, and some are in jeopardy. The manuscript is recorded with a combination of text and pictures. The text is mainly traced from the profound family production background and inheritance of several generations. The family history and inheritance history of the craftsman is described in a literary way. The text is concise and exquisite; the pictures are true and true. Accurately conduct a large number of samples during the crafting process to give readers a sense of appreciation and presence. The manuscript not only truly reflects the current status of Hunan handicraft practitioners, but also a record of traditional handicraft culture. It is a clear evidence of the spiritual inheritance of Hunan craftsmen and the preservation of the beauty of daily life that we once possessed.

        Vom Geist des Zen

        by Alan Watts, Julius Schwabe

        Roman

        by Sibylle Lewitscharoff

Arts and Crafts objects

        by Imogen Hart, Christopher Breward, Bill Sherman

        In this groundbreaking reassessment of the conventional understanding of a cohesive 'Arts and Crafts movement' in Britain, Imogen Hart argues that a sophisticated mode of looking at decorative art developed in England during the second half of the nineteenth century. Bringing to light a significant number of little-known visual and textual sources, Arts and Crafts Objects insists that the history of British design between the 1830s and the 1910s is more complex and interwoven than concepts of clearly differentiated 'movements' allow for. Reinvesting the objects with the original importance ascribed to them by their makers and users, this book places furniture, metalwork, tiles, vases, chintzes, carpets, and wallpaper at the centre of a rigorous reassessment of the concept of 'Arts and Crafts'. The book offers radical new interpretations of the Arts and Crafts Exhibition Society and the homes of William Morris, alongside illuminating analyses of less familiar but equally rich contexts. ;

        Crafting identities

        Artisan culture in London, c. 1550–1640

        by Jasmine Kilburn-Toppin, Christopher Breward, James Ryan

        Crafting identities explores artisanal identity and culture in early modern London. It demonstrates that the social, intellectual and political status of London's crafts and craftsmen were embedded in particular material and spatial contexts. Through examination of a wide range of manuscript, visual and material culture sources, the book investigates for the first time how London's artisans physically shaped the built environment of the city and how the experience of negotiating urban spaces impacted directly on their distinctive individual and collective identities. Applying an innovative and interdisciplinary methodology to the examination of artisanal cultures, the book engages with the fields of social and cultural history and the histories of art, design and architecture. It will appeal to scholars of early modern social, cultural and urban history, as well as those interested in design and architectural history.

        Lucie im Wald mit den Dingsda

        Eine Geschichte

        by Peter Handke

        Die zehnjährige Lucie empfindet ihren Vater als eine Zumutung. Gegen die schöne Mutter, eine Kriminalpolizistin, ist der gärtnernde Vater ein lästiger »Ausfall oder Ausrutscher«. Lucie kann nur hoffen, daß »sie nicht mit dem da dort« gesehen wird, wenn er mit schmutzigen Händen und ausgebeulten Taschen, aus denen es heraustropft, vor der Schule steht, um sie abzuholen. Was da tropft, sind diese »Dingsbums« oder »Herrlichkeiten«, deretwegen der Vater immer wieder in den Wald geht, die die Mutter hingegen abschätzig »Mulms« nennt und schon lange nicht mehr essen mag. Lucie aber kommt ab und zu - wenn auch ohne große Begeisterung - mit in den Wald, und dann findet sie sogar viele der »Wäldersattsamkeiten«, weiß die Namen der verschiedenen Arten, kennt ihre Geheimnisse. Als der Vater wegen einer angeblichen Verschwörung gegen den König verhaftet wird, macht sie sich auf, um mit Hilfe der gefundenen »Dings« in die Hauptstadt zu kommen, von den Gefängniswärtern durch- und schließlich beim König vorgelassen zu werden, den Vater zu befreien, die Familie zusammenzubringen ... Peter Handke hat eine poetische und selbstironische Geschichte geschrieben über die Fremdheit und die Liebe, über die Annäherung an die wirklichen Dinge und das Geschichtenerzählen.

        Trade unions and democracy

        Strategies and perspectives

        by Mark Harcourt, Geoffrey Wood

        This book explores the changing role of trade unions as products of, and agents for, democracy. Despite conventionally being portrayed as politically marginalised and in terminal decline, trade unions continue to represent a significant component of society within most industrialised countries and have demonstrated a capacity for revival and renewal in the face of difficult corcumstances. It brings together a distinguished panel of leading and emerging scholars in the field, and provides a critical assessment of the current role of trade unions in society, their capacity to impact on state policies in such a manner as to ensure greater accountability and fairness, and the nature and extent of internal representative democracy within the labour movement. This volume will be of interest to students and academics in industrial relations, critical management studies, political studies and sociology. ;

        Agriculture and World Trade Liberalisation

        Socio-environmental Perspectives on the Common Agricultural Policy

        by Edited by Michael Redclift, Joseph Lekakis, George P Zanias

        The impact of free trade on the environment and the employment of environmental policies as non-tariff protectionist policies are topics which are currently receiving a great deal of attention. Proponents of freer trade insist that, by leading to higher growth rates and per capita incomes, trade increases the demand for environmental quality and helps poor countries escape the poverty-generated pollution trap. The purpose of this book is to discuss the current and future issues surrounding agriculture and its relationship to trade, sustainability and the environment. It is based on selected papers from an international conference entitled ‘European Agriculture at the Crossroads: Competition and Sustainability’ held in Crete in 1996 and further updated with the European Commission’s Agenda 2000 in mind. Written by leading authorities from Europe and the USA, this book is essential reading for researchers and policy makers in agricultural economics, rural sociology, the environment and European studies.

        Crafting design in Italy

        From post-war to postmodernism

        by Catharine Rossi, Christopher Breward, Bill Sherman

        Crafting design in Italy is the first book to examine the role that craft played in post-war Italian design, one of the most celebrated design episodes in the twentieth century. Craft was vital to the development of Italian design, and it has been so far overlooked. This book examines the multiple ways craft shaped Italian design from 1945 to the 1980s in the context of bigger socio-economic, cultural and political change; from post-war reconstruction to the economic 'miracle' of the 1960s, to the rise of the countercultural Radical Design movement and advent of postmodernism. It consists of case studies on design areas including product, furniture, fashion, glass and ceramics to bring to light previously unknown makers and objects as well as re-examine design 'icons' such as Gio Ponti's Superleggera chair and Ettore Sottsass's Memphisware. It also offers a model for analysing design and craft's relationship in other contexts, including today. ;
