Of course, the fate of the artist was formed in a certain way because he realized his vocation - to be a poet. On the other hand, he lived his life as a professional artist. After graduating from the St. Petersburg Academy of Arts, T. Shevchenko worked as an artist in the Temporary Commission for the consideration of ancient acts (Kyiv Archaeographic Commission), applied for the position of drawing teacher at the University of St. Volodymyr in Kyiv. And when his plans were broken by arrest, then in exile, despite the strict imperial ban on writing and drawing, the artist was able to work in his specialty, although not officially. Shevchenko devoted the last years of his life to the development of etching, having received the title of academician in engraving. The publication consists of two parts. The first is devoted to the works of the artist, made in graphic techniques, as well as sepia and watercolor. Given the fact that there are few oil paintings in the artist's works, we singled them out in the second part, trying to break stereotypes about their perception. Each section of the first part is devoted to a separate genre, which was addressed by T. Shevchenko. The largest of the sections are divided into thematic headings, which allows you to see the works of the artist from a new, perhaps unexpected, angle. In turn, the commentary to each work contains a brief history of creation (places, circumstances, relationships, etc.) and artistic characteristics that reveal the performing skills of the author. In addition, an important addition is the part of the commentary "Interesting" and quotes from the novels, Diary, correspondence of the artist, memoirs of his contemporaries. You can start your acquaintance with the publication from any section or even heading. Traveling through Shevchenko's paintings on separate routes you will have a complete rich journey through the original world of the artist.

Der Schriftsteller, Übersetzer und Pianist Wolfgang Held wurde am 15. August 1933 in Freiburg im Breisgau geboren. Er promovierte 1961 mit einer Arbeit über Georg Trakl. Von 1961-73 arbeitete er als Lektor für den Deutschen Akademischen Austauschdienst (DAAD) an den Universitäten Madras (Chennai), Ljubljana und Edinburgh. Danach wurde er Senior Lecturer an der Greenwich University (früher Thames Polytechnic) in London, wo er ab 1973 lebte. Sein literarisches Werk besteht aus Romanen, Essays sowie Prosa- und Gedichtübersetzungen. Seine Romane umspannen die Karriere als Schriftsteller von 1965 (Die im Glashaus) bis 2014 (Schattenfabel). Es erschienen außerdem Die schöne Gärtnerin (1979), Ein Brief des jüngeren Plinius, Rabenkind (1985), Geschichte der abgeschnittenen Hand (1994) und Traum vom Hungerturm (2007). Helds Werk erfuhr Anerkennung unter anderem durch Einladungen zu literarischen Veranstaltungen (Treffen der Gruppe 47 1965, Wettbewerb zum Ingeborg-Bachmann-Preis 1983) und die Verleihung des Literaturpreises des Kulturkreises im Bundesverband der Deutschen Industrie (1983). Durch seine Übersetzungen für Suhrkamp brachte Held Schlüsselfiguren der englischen und irischen Literatur einer breiteren deutschen Öffentlichkeit näher. Zu den übersetzten Werken gehören eine Biographie zu und Schriften von Samuel Beckett, eine Biographie zu Bernard Shaw, eine Biographie und Briefe von T.S. Eliot und Gedichte von Emily Bronte, John Donne, John Keats, Robert Graves, Edgar Allan Poe. Seine Bewunderung für E. T. A. Hoffmann inspirierte sein einziges Theaterstück Hoffmanns Verbrennung, für das er 1994 den Berganzapreis erhielt. Das Stück wurde 2015 mit Bühnenbildern aus seinem auf Hoffmanns Werk basierenden Collagenzyklus in Bamberg uraufgeführt. Text und Collagen wurden 2015 bzw. 2013 veröffentlicht. Helds Liebe zur Musik und Kunst war für seine Arbeit von zentraler Bedeutung. Als Pianist gab er Konzerte in Madras (Chennai), Bamberg und privat in London. Er schrieb eine Reihe von Sendungen für SWF und NDR, die er mit eigenen Einspielungen von Lieblingskomponisten wie Bach, Schubert und Schumann illustrierte. Held verstarb am 11. Dezember 2016 in London.

Dass es keine Produktion wie jede andere werden wird, zeigt sich bereits im Vorfeld: Der erste Investor entgeht nur knapp einem Bombenattentat, drei Fernsehmanager werden ermordet, und als endlich ein Produktionsbüro bezogen werden kann, wird es kurz darauf vom Militär besetzt. Schließlich sind da noch die Differenzen im russisch-amerikanischen Team: Filme, in denen Männer den Abwasch machen und Patchwork-Familien fröhliche Buchstabenlieder singen, kommen bei den russischen Kreativen nicht gut an – Schwermut und klassische Musik sollen zum Einsatz kommen. Es wird beherzt gestritten, und nur langsam nähern sich beide Seiten an. Am Ende entstehen aber Kulissen und Handpuppen, Filme und Musik, die amerikanische Vorgaben und russische Tradition verbinden. Die Sendung wird ein Riesenerfolg – bis sie von Putin-treuen Fernsehmanagern abgesetzt wird. Mehr als zehn Jahre lang erreichte die russische Ausgabe der Sesamstraße Millionen von Familien. Die Vision der Sendung: eine neue Realität für die Kinder und Enkelkinder des Landes zu entwerfen – zunächst auf dem Fernsehbildschirm und dann im wirklichen Leben. Natasha Lance Rogoff, die amerikanische Produzentin der Sendung, gibt einen Einblick hinter die Kulissen und erzählt eine turbulente Geschichte von Bombenanschlägen, dem Clash der Kulturen und der zarten Hoffnung, dass es so etwas wie Annäherung zwischen zwei Welten geben kann.
