Too late they realize their mistake, as a minor forest fire suddenly explodes into the most dangerous blaze in the state's history, trapping Mogi and the others right in its path. They're fighting for their lives in this fifth book of the Mogi Franklin Mysteries, and if he's going to come up with a way out, he'd better do it fast!

        Riddles at work in the early medieval tradition

        Words, ideas, interactions

        by Megan Cavell, Jennifer Neville

        Capitalising on developments in the field over the past decade, Riddles at work provides an up-to-date microcosm of research on the early medieval riddle tradition. The book presents a wide range of traditional and experimental methodologies. The contributors treat the riddles both as individual poems and as parts of a tradition, but, most importantly, they address Latin and Old English riddles side-by-side, bringing together texts that originally developed in conversation with each other but have often been separated by scholarship. Together, the chapters reveal that there is no single, right way to read these texts but rather a multitude of productive paths. This book will appeal to students and scholars of early medieval studies. It contains new as well as established voices, including Jonathan Wilcox, Mercedes Salvador-Bello and Jennifer Neville.

        Gun Love

        by Jennifer Clement, Nicolai Schweder-Schreiner

        Kill your Darling!

        13 Trennungsstorys, die Geschichte machten

        by Jennifer Wright, Jenny Merling

        Vater

        Roman

        by Elizabeth Arnim, Anna Marie Welck

        »Nicht wahr, du bleibst bei Vater«, hatte die Mutter auf dem Sterbebett geflüstert, »versprich es mir…«, und sie versprach es. Natürlich konnte und wollte Jennifer ihren Vater nicht verlassen. Aber nach zwölf vollen Jahren geschah etwas Unerwartetes: Vater kam eines schönen Nachmittags, ohne vorher einer Menschenseele ein Wort gesagt zu haben, zum Tee mit einer neuen Frau nach Hause. Und Jennifer war erleichtert: Endlich, nach zwölf Jahren, sah sie das Tor zur Freiheit geöffnet. Doch Vater hatte da andere Vorstellungen. Zwei Frauen in seinem Hause, die Tochter, von der er meinte, daß sie nun mit den Jahren doch zu einer alten Jungfer geworden sei, und die um vieles jüngere neue Ehefrau sollten doch eine ideale Ergänzung für ihn sein. Wie Jennifer damit umgeht und schließlich auch damit fertig wird, wie sie sich von einer durch Zwänge und familiäre Bande eingeengten Frau emanzipiert, das beschreibt Elizabeth von Arnim in der ihr eigenen vergnüglich-ironischen Sprache.

        Love's Sacrifice

        by A. T. Moore

        A. T. Moore's thorough commentary on "Love's Sacrifice" is designed to be of use to all kinds of readers, from students of Early Modern drama to specialists in the field. The notes provide full explanations of obscure words and phrases, and offer analyzes of many aspects of staging and interpretation. The text for this edition is based on a fresh study of the quarto of 1633, the only authoritative early text. In his introduction to the play, Moore reappraises the evidence for the play's date of composition. He also looks at the circumstances of the play's genesis, presenting detailed discussions of both the theater where "Love's Sacrifice" was first performed and the acting company for which it was written. Arguing that Ford's adaptation of his source materials is the key to interpreting this remarkably allusive play, Moore provides a wealth of new information about Ford's sources.The introduction also includes a survey of critical responses, an overview of the play, stage history, and a bibliography of relevant secondary material. This new volume in the "Revels Plays" series is the most detailed and comprehensive edition of "Love's Sacrifice" ever published - and the first modern-spelling edition of Ford's tragedy in more than a century. The play's textual history is discussed in an appendix. A second appendix examines possible links between "Love's Sacrifice" and the real-life story of the murdered Italian prince and musician Carlo Gesualdo. ;
