Conga Line on the Amazon
by David Myles Robinson
David Myles Robinson was eight years old when he first got hooked on travel. Since then, he’s seen most of the world—all its continents plus, he laments, “far too many places where travel is now off-limits.”After a lifetime of visiting near and far, in heat and in cold, in comfort and in danger, Robinson has put it all together now in this unique collection of the varied travel adventures he’s found—and the lessons he’s learned from them. A Fellini-esque view of the Amazon, a Mercedes caravan to Istanbul, Jane Goodall's amazing chimps—just part of a travel trunk full of experiences guaranteed to keep you seesawing from “Boy, I'd love to do that" to “Sure glad it was him, not me.”In Conga Line on the Amazon, Robinson brings to his first travel book the same gift for intriguing narrative and sharp characterization that has won praise for his six highly successful novels. Some of his tales may be for the strong of heart, but they’re all for the reader with a yen to be entertained by one intrepid man’s adventures and misadventures exploring the strange and wonderful world we live in.

Die Formen des Religiösen in der Gegenwart
by Charles Taylor, Karin Wördemann, Charles Taylor

Literary and visual Ralegh
by J. B. Lethbridge
This collection of essays by scholars from Great Britain, the United States, Canada and Taiwan covers a wide range of topics about Ralegh's diversified career and achievements. Some of the essays shed light on less familiar facets such as Ralegh as a father and as he is represented in paintings, statues, and in movies; others re-examine him as poet, historian, as a controversial figure in Ireland during Elizabeth's reign, and look at his complex relationship with and patronage of Edmund Spenser. A recurrent topic is the Hatfield Manuscript in Ralegh's handwriting, which contains his long, unfinished poem 'The Ocean to Cynthia', usually considered a lament about his rejection by Queen Elizabeth after she learned of his secret marriage to one of her ladies-in-waiting. The book is appropriate for students of Elizabethan-Jacobean history and literature. Among the contributors are well-known scholars of Ralegh and his era, including James Nohrenberg, Anna Beer, Thomas Herron, Alden Vaughan and Andrew Hiscock. ;

Keys to the Tropical Fruit Flies of South-East Asia
(Tephritidae: Dacinae)
by Richard A I Drew, Meredith C Romig
Fruit flies are a major issue facing horticultural producers, and as global warming and species migration become more prevalent issues there is an urgent need for easy identification of these pests. A companion volume to the recently published “Tropical Fruit Flies of South-East Asia (Tephritidae: Dacinae)”, this book provides fully-illustrated keys for the identification of all currently-known Dacinae fruit flies. Focusing on south-east Asian fauna, it covers areas including India, Bhutan, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Myanmar, China, Taiwan, Japan, the Philippines, Palau, Vietnam, Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia and Indonesia. This major new reference work is produced by experts with over 80 years' combined research experience, and through simple identification information can help prevent these major pest species being introduced to new geographical areas. Of particular value to agriculture and quarantine officers responsible for the detection of new incursions, where early detection is both economical and essential to guarantee eradication, this book is also a valuable resource for researchers and students of agriculture and entomology. ; A companion to “Tropical Fruit Flies of South-East Asia (Tephritidae: Dacinae)”, this book provides fully-illustrated keys for the identification of all currently-known Dacinae fruit flies. Ethical Tensions from New Technology
The Case of Agricultural Biotechnology
by Harvey S. James, Jr., Philipp Aerni, Rachel A. Ankeny, Bartosz Bartkowski, Heather J. Bray, Bradley Martin Jones, Deepthi E. Kolady, Jane Kolodinsky, Katie M. MacDonald, Kelly A. McKinley, Desmond Ng, Frauke Pirscher, Roberto Quiroz, Dane Scott, Shivendra Kumar Srivastava, Debra M. Strauss, Insa Theesfeld, Johannes Timaeus, Corrine Valdivia, Duane Windsor
The introduction of new technologies can be controversial, especially when they create ethical tensions as well as winners and losers among stakeholders and interest groups. While ethical tensions resulting from the genetic modification of crops and plants and their supportive gene technologies have been apparent for decades, persistent challenges remain. This book explores the contemporary nature, type, extent and implications of ethical tensions resulting from agricultural biotechnology specifically and technology generally. There are four main arenas of ethical tensions: public opinion, policy and regulation, technology as solutions to problems, and older versus new technologies. Contributions focus on one or more of these arenas by identifying the ethical tensions technology creates and articulating emerging fault lines and, where possible, viable solutions. Key features include: Focusing on contemporary challenges created by new and emerging technologies, especially agricultural biotechnology. Identifying a unique perspective by considering the problem of ethical tensions created or enhanced by new technologies. Providing an interdisciplinary perspective by including perspectives from sociologists, economists, philosophers and other social scientists. This book will be of interest to academics in agricultural economics, sociology and philosophy and policymakers concerned with introducing new technology into agriculture.

Elizabeth und ihr Garten
by Elizabeth von Arnim, Constanze Guhr, Adelheid Dormagen

Carol Reed
by Peter William Evans
Carol Reed is one of the truly outstanding directors of British cinema, and one whose work is long overdue for reconsideration. This major study ranges over Reed's entire career, combining observation of general trends and patterns with detailed analysis of twenty films, both acknowledged masterpieces and lesser-known works. Evans avoids a simplistic auteurist approach, placing the films in their autobiographical, socio-political and cultural contexts and relating these to the analysis of Reed's art. The critical approach combines psychoanalysis, gender theory, and the analysis of form. Archival research is also relied on to clarify Reed's relations with his creative team, financial backers and others. Films examined include Bank Holiday, A Girl Must Live, Odd Man Out, The Fallen Idol, The Third Man, Night Train to Munich, The Way Ahead, Outcast of the Islands, Trapeze and Oliver!.
