        Komposition für den Film

by Theodor W. Adorno, Hanns Eisler, Johannes C. Gall, Johannes C. Gall

        by Taras Prokhasko, Mariana Prokhasko

They eat sweets and have fun, and they explore their neighborhood and make new friends with little wild boars. They even become detectives trying to investigate where the sea has gone , though not the real sea, but the one painted on a picture. Thus intrigue is interwoven into the typically quiet life of the Beech Tree Forest and the story accelerates its pace, offering new challenges and delights for its readers.

Workers, state and development in Brazil

Powers of labour, chains of value

        by Benjamin Selwyn

        How do changing class relations contribute to processes of capitalist development? Within development studies the importance of class relations is usually relegated to lesser status than the roles of states and markets in generating and allocating resources. This book argues that the changing class relations are central to different patterns of capitalist development and that processes and outcomes of class struggle co-determine the form that development takes. Workers, State and Development in Brazil, nominated for the International Political Economy Group (IPGG) Book Prize 2013 and now available in paperback, illuminates these claims through a detailed empirical investigation of class dynamics and capitalist development in North East Brazil's São Francisco valley. It details how workers in the valley's export grape sector have won significant concessions from employers, contributing to a progressive pattern of regional capitalist development. The book will appeal to students and researchers interested in processes of capitalist development, agrarian political economy and international political economy. ;

        Mango

        Botany, Production and Uses

by Edited by Richard E Litz

The Mango is one of the oldest cultivated fruit crops, having been grown in India for at least 4000 years. Mango is the most important fruit crop of Asia and its annual production is exceeded worldwide only by Musa, citrus, grapes and apples. The last decade has seen a rapid growth of mango production, mainly due to expansion into new growing regions but also to the adoption of modern field practices and cultivars. A wide range of fresh, mango cultivars are now consumed worldwide and are available year round. The Mango: Botany, Production and Uses, published in 1997, represented the first comprehensive examination of all aspects of modern mango production and research. Developing upon the successful first edition, this book incorporates a discussion of significant advances in mango research that have contributed to improved production and will be highly relevant for researchers and growers alike.

        Nüchtern

Über das Trinken und das Glück

        by Daniel Schreiber

        SNOWFLAKE RIVER

A Voyage into the Great Spirit

        by Ben Ami Eliahu

The Great Spirit – the common spirit of all mankind, which contains all its emotions and thoughts and enables their transition from one generation to the next – is in danger. It is bleeding. And the consequences can already be felt: a strange, ominous, body-cooling phenomenon is spreading throughout the world, causing a significant decrease in people’s body temperatures.  Omer, a sensitive and intelligent boy who suffers from this phenomenon, sets out to investigate it and gets caught up in a worldwide, multi-dimensional adventure. A scientist who has lost his memory reveals to him the spiritglow – the material that connects humanity with its mysterious roots. Obscure characters accompany Omer to the depths of our common memory and thought. They tell him of the all-important snowflakes, and teach him to look from high above into the infinite river of life, for only there, alone and from a distance, will he be able to understand a terrible secret. Snowflake River is an adventure story, yet at the same time it is an allegory of a world haunted by greed, and of the damage that has been inflicted on its delicate equilibrium. In this highly imaginative, surprising, and poetic story, the author describes the struggle between good and evil, old and new, free will and domination, while highlighting the power of simplicity, innocence, and love. This book is intended for adult and young readers alike.  Ben Ami Eliahu, 46, is married with one daughter. He lives in Israel and is the son of parents of Indian origin. The novel was mostly written in India, in a cabin within the heart of the forest; the creative process involved has made the author, a software designer by training, move to the country and start growing grapes... 310 pages, 14.5X21 cm

Are We Pushing Animals to Their Biological Limits?

        Welfare and Ethical Implications

        by Temple Grandin, Martin Whiting

Stimulating and thought-provoking, this important new text looks at the welfare problems and philosophical and ethical issues that are caused by changes made to an animal's telos, behaviour and physiology, both positive and negative, to make them more productive or adapted for human uses. These changes may involve selective breeding for production, appearance traits, or competitive advantage in sport, transgenic animals or the use of pharmaceuticals or hormones to enhance production or performance. Changes may impose duties to care for these animals further and more intensely, or they may make the animal more robust. The book considers a wide range of animals, including farm animals, companion animals and laboratory animals. It reviews the ethics and welfare issues of animals that have been adapted for sport, as companions, in work, as ornaments, food sources, guarding and a whole host of other human functions. This important new book sparks debate and is essential reading for all those involved in animal welfare and ethics, including veterinarians, animal scientists, animal welfare scientists and ethologists.
