        This book intends to explain the development of the knowledge of Mek Mulung, a dance drama that is based in Wang Tepus, Jitra Kedah using archival evidence and ethnographic research. Since its earliest known documentation through in the writings of Walter William Skeat published in 1900, very little of Mek Mulung was described comprehensively. This book describes Mek Mulung in five chapters. It begins with its overview, describing the beholders of the tradition, the performance style, new creative ideas and heritage revival activities integrated towards the idea of the performance. Readers of the book can also experience the music of Mek Mulung by listening to musical examples as well as interacting with the dance and movements through an augmented reality mobile phone application which accompanies the book. The integrated multi-sensory experience of this book aims to enrich and help readers to appreciate Mek Mulung as a heritage performance.

        Life in 16th-century Malacca—as it is in Malaysia today—was centred on power and politics, trade and commerce, rivalry and strife, race and religion, and war and peace. As the leading entrepot of the Nusantara, Malacca grew rich and prosperous.  Then things took a familiar turn. The political ethos of the inward-looking and self-serving ruling elite had begun to change for the worse. Bent on enjoying the trappings of wealth and power, they ignored the needs and well-being of the rakyat and the State. At the same time, a resurgent Portugal, driven by science and ambition, was the superpower of the day. She could project power and dictate the course of history in most parts of the known world. Malacca was totally unprepared for the Portuguese ‘Mission to Malacca’ in 1509 led by Admiral de Sequeira. The subsequent ill-advised taking of some Portuguese as hostages and the retreat of de Sequeira’s fleet led to Afonso de Albuquerque’s ferocious invasion in 1511, which ends in a shattering defeat for Malacca, leaving in its wake an enduring sense of loss and a legacy of deep distrust for the ‘other’. As a work of historical fiction, Once Upon A Time In Malaysia is a stark reminder that the more things change, the more they stay the same.

The rulers of the Christian kingdom always attacked the Islamic kingdom in order to take back the colonies that were occupied by Islam and then eliminate Islam.   The Christian dream of seeing the Islamic rule wiped out in Andalusia was successfully fulfilled by Queen Isabella and her husband, King Ferdinand when they conquered Granada, the last stronghold of the Muslims.   Abu Abdullah became the last Muslim ruler in Andalusia when he was forced to surrender Granada to the hands of Queen Isabella and King Ferdinand. When leaving Granada, she shed tears until her mother said, "Don't cry like a woman for something you can't stand like a man.

        In 1958, the then Game Department in the state of Perak were responsible for protecting wildlife and answering calls for assistance to protect crops, property and lives threatened by these animals. It was a time of plenty, with forest cover of more than 75 percent.   Unfortunately, those forests were rapidly being cleared, causing wildlife species to become homeless. Moreover, solving problems often resulted in the killings of these animals. Hunting licenses were introduced, accounting for large numbers of sambar and barking deer being killed. This slaughter continued for decades, leading to a decline in the numbers of several large animal species. Due to rampant hunting, poaching, and the loss of about 30 percent of the forest species that were once common are now in dire need of saving from further decline. The need to step up conservation efforts has reached an alarming level, requiring prompt action to ensure population recovery.
