        MMC EDIZIONI is a publishing house based in Rome.Born in 2001 as a generalist, along the time it has specialized almost exclusively in non-fiction, dedicated in particular (but not only) to the city of Rome.The main series, called "A walk with history" offers an alternative vision of the city through the historical reconnaissance and analysis of some of its urban furnishings that are not taken into consideration such as small fountains, clocks, inscriptions, sacred shrines, plaques. This series stands out for a particular graphic style and for the abundance of photographs, specially made for these books.Other series on Rome are instead dedicated to in-depth studies on specific historical and customs themes, or on the mysterious aspects of the city that also reveal its dark side.In the MMC catalogue are other non-fiction books on topics such as Music, Interculture, Anthropology and a series of stories for children encouraging solidarity, non-violence and respect for the environment

        Feline Reproduction

        by Aime Johnson, Michelle Kutzler

        Cats are one of the most popular pets in the world, and as homes become smaller, and single-person households become more common, it is predicted that the numbers being bred and kept will only grow. In Feline Reproduction, the global author team cover all aspects of reproduction in the queen and the tom. Beginning with basic anatomy and normal reproduction, it goes on to cover practical knowledge about pregnancy, neonatal care, breeding soundness exams, and semen cryopreservation. It also includes an overview of factors, diseases, and abnormal conditions affecting reproduction, such as infertility, causes of abortion and contraception. Covering both pet patients and nondomestic species, this book provides a thorough grounding in feline reproduction for the general veterinary practitioner, veterinary student, animal scientist, and experienced cat breeder.

        Der Briefwechsel Thomas Bernhard/Siegfried Unseld

        by Thomas Bernhard, Siegfried Unseld, Raimund Siegfried, Martin Huber, Julia Ketterer

        30 Jahre alt, ohne Resonanz auf seine bis dahin veröffentlichten drei Gedichtbände, vom eigenen überragenden schriftstellerischen Können allerdings überzeugt, schreibt Thomas Bernhard im Oktober 1961 an Siegfried Unseld: "Vor ein paar Tagen habe ich an Ihren Verlag ein Prosamanuskript geschickt. Ich kenne Sie nicht, nur ein paar Leute, die Sie kennen. Aber ich gehe den Alleingang." Obwohl der Suhrkamp Verlag das Manuskript ablehnte, gingen der Alleingänger und der Verleger seit dem Erscheinen von Bernhards erstem Roman "Frost" 1963 gemeinsam den Weg, der den Autor in die Weltliteratur führte. In den etwa 500 Briefen zwischen beiden entwickelt sich ein einzigartiges Zwei-Personen-Schauspiel: Mal ist es eine Tragödie, wenn etwa Bernhard die aus seinen Werken bekannten Schimpftiraden auf den Verleger losläßt, der seinerseits auf die Überzeugungskraft des Arguments setzt. Dann gibt Bernhard ein Kammerspiel mit Unseld als Held – 1973 schreibt er ihm: "mit grösster Aufmerksamkeit, mit allen Möglichkeiten, gehe ich gern mit Ihnen." 1984 agieren beide, bei der Beschlagnahme von "Holzfällen", als Kämpfer für die Literatur in einem von Dritten inszenierten Schurkenstück. Es dominiert das Beziehungsdrama: Der Autor stellt die für sein Werk und seine Person unabdingbaren Forderungen. Der Verleger seinerseits weiß, daß gerade bei Bernhard rücksichtslose Selbstbezogenheit notwendige Voraussetzung der Produktivität ist. Solch einen dramatischen Briefwechsel zwischen Autor und Verleger, in dem bei jeder Zeile alles auf dem Spiel steht, kennt das Publikum bislang nicht.

        Der Briefwechsel Thomas Bernhard/Siegfried Unseld

        Roy Ward Baker

        by Geoff Mayer, Brian McFarlane, Neil Sinyard

        This book traces the career of Roy Ward Baker, one of the great survivors of the British film and television industry. He directed the landmark British film Morning Departure (1949), worked at Twentieth Century Fox in Hollywood in the early 1950s where he directed Marilyn Monroe's 'breakthrough' film (Don't Bother to Knock), and followed this with a succession of fine films for Rank, culminating in the best version of the Titanic disaster, A Night to Remember in 1958. Yet within three years he was unable to secure a job in the British film industry and he moved to television series such as The Avengers, The Saint and Minder. Later Baker re-emerged as a major director of science-fiction (Quatermass and the Pit) and horror films (Asylum). Geoff Mayer provides an industrial and aesthetic context in which to understand the interrelationship between a skilled classical director and the transformation of the British film industry in the 1950s. ;

        J. M. W. Turner

        The making of a modern artist

        by Sam Smiles, Alan Rutter

        Alone of his contemporaries, J.M.W. Turner is commonly held to have prefigured modern painting, as signalled in the existence of The Turner Prize for contemporary art. Our celebration of his achievement is very different to what Victorian critics made of his art. This book shows how Turner was reinvented to become the artist we recognise today. On Turner's death in 1851 he was already known as an adventurous, even baffling, painter. But when the Court of Chancery decreed that the contents of his studio should be given to the nation, another side of his art was revealed that effected a wholescale change in his reputation. This book acts as a guide to the reactions of art writers and curators from the 1850s to the 1960s as they attempted to come to terms with his work. It documents how Turner was interpreted and how his work was displayed in Britain, in Europe and in North America, concentrating on the ways in which his artistic identity was manipulated by art writers, by curators at the Tate and by designers of exhibitions for the British Council and other bodies. ;

        Ein Leben an der Seite von Thomas Bernhard

        Ein Rapport

        by Peter Fabjan

        »Du musst das halt in meinem Sinn machen«, trägt Thomas Bernhard seinem Halbbruder Peter Fabjan auf, als er spürt, dass er nicht mehr lange zu leben hat. Und der sieben Jahre Jüngere gehorcht und übernimmt die Verantwortung, dieses Mal für ein schwieriges Erbe – so wie er es immer getan hat von Jugend an, wenn ihn der Ältere gebraucht hat. Den anderen galt er als »der liebe Bruder«, Fabjan selbst sieht sich eher als »Helfer in der Not«, denn oft genug fand er sich in der Rolle des Chauffeurs und dienstbaren Geistes wieder, der am Nebentisch saß, während der Bruder mit Persönlichkeiten aus Politik und Kunst parlierte. Peter Fabjan, Bruder und gleichzeitig behandelnder Arzt Thomas Bernhards, gibt in seinen Erinnerungen einen Einblick in das Leben an der Seite, besonders aber auch im Schatten des österreichischen Dramatikers und Romanschriftstellers, der Weltruhm erlangte. Er erzählt von den schwierigen und vielfach belasteten familiären Verhältnissen genauso wie von der Kriegskindheit, von gemeinsamen Reisen in die USA oder nach Portugal und von seinen Bemühungen um das Leben seines von langer und schwerer Krankheit gezeichneten Patienten. Ein offenherziger, freimütiger und ehrlicher Bericht.

        The lives of Thomas Becket

        by Rosemary Horrox, Michael Staunton, Simon Maclean

        This collection tells the story of Thomas Becket's turbulent life, violent death and extraordinary posthumous acclaim in the words of his contemporaries. The only modern collection from the twelfth-century Lives of Thomas Becket in English and features all his major biographers, including many previously untranslated extracts. Providing both a valuable glimpse of the late twelfth-century world, and an insight into the minds of those who witnessed the events. By using contemporary sources, this book is the most accessible way to study this central episode in medieval history. Thomas Becket features prominently in most medieval core courses. This book allows the subject to be taught as never before, and is highly suitable as a set text. ;
