September erleben wir eine Renaissance der Religionen: Die Debatten um Kruzifixe in Schulen, die mediale Hysterie nach der Wahl Papst Benedikts XVI. und den Islam in Europa zwingen uns nun, die Bedeutung von Begriffen wie religiös und säkular und die öffentliche Rolle der Religion zu überdenken. Zu diesem Zweck fand im Oktober 2009 in New York eine Art Gipfeltreffen der Philosophie statt, an dem mit Judith Butler, Craig Calhoun, Jürgen Habermas, Charles Taylor und Cornel West fünf der wichtigsten Denkerinnen und Denker der Gegenwart teilnahmen. La historia es semi biográfica y toma lugar de forma parcial en Alepo, Siria, el lugar de nacimiento del autor. El libro describe la vida, las luchas, y la dispersión de una adinerada familia de sirio-judíos durante el curso de tres generaciones, comenzando a los mediados de los años 30. La historia de la familia Ezra Safra es la historia de una familia judía del medio oriente y sus valores básicos tradicionales, los cuales son constantemente desafiados por otras normas, ya sean circunstanciales como universales. Sacudida por levantamientos locales como globales, la familia encabezada por Michel y su hermosa esposa Linda, es obligada a abandonar su hogar, la ciudad de Alepo, durante los disturbios generados por la resolución de las Naciones Unidas a finales de 1947, de establecer el estado judío en Palestina. Michel, un hombre práctico, continúa manejando su imperio económico. Su poder sobre sus hijos parece desvanecerse, sin embargo, aunque aún disfruta de su respeto y cariño. Amnon Shamosh nació en Siria en 1929, inmigró a Tel Aviv de niño, y llegó a ser posteriormente uno de los miembros fundadores de Kibutz Ma'ayan Baruch, donde reside hasta hoy en día. Se graduó en la Universidad Hebrea de Jerusalén .Es autor tanto de poesía como de prosa para niños y adultos, su trabajo se ha traducido al inglés, al español, y al francés, y una de sus novelas fue llevada a la televisión en forma de miniserie. Amnon Shamosh ha sido galardonado con el Premio "Agnon", denominado con ese nombre en honor al laureado célebre israelí Nóbel de Literatura, el Premio "Shalom-Aleichem", el Premio del Primer Ministro de creatividad, el Premio de literatura del presidente de Israel, y numerosos premios de literatura adicionales.

Although economists have made significant progress in developing more sophisticated methods for research evaluation and priority setting, many research analysts and administrators do not have a working knowledge of those practices. Addressing that knowledge gap, this book reviews, synthesizes, and extends such methods as economic surplus analysis, econometric techniques, mathematical programming procedures, and scoring models. Theodor W. Adorno wurde am 11. September 1903 in Frankfurt am Main geboren und starb am 06. August 1969 während eines Ferienaufenthalts in Visp/Wallis an den Folgen eines Herzinfarkts. Von 1921 bis 1923 studierte er in Frankfurt Philosophie, Soziologie, Psychologie und Musikwissenschaft und promovierte 1924 über Die Transzendenz des Dinglichen und Noematischen in Husserls Phänomenologie. Bereits während seiner Schulzeit schloss er Freundschaft mit Siegfried Kracauer und während seines Studiums mit Max Horkheimer und Walter Benjamin. Mit ihnen zählt Adorno zu den wichtigsten Vertretern der »Frankfurter Schule«, die aus dem Institut für Sozialforschung an der Johann Wolfgang Goethe-Universität in Frankfurt hervorging. Sämtliche Werke Adornos sind im Suhrkamp Verlag erschienen. Rolf Tiedemann wurde 1932 in Hamburg geboren. Im Zuge seines Studiums der Philosophie, Germanistik und Soziologie in Hamburg, Göttingen, Berlin und schlussendlich in Frankfurt am Main, war Tiedemann ab 1959 als wissenschaftlicher Mitarbeiter und später als persönlicher Assistent bei Theodor W. Adorno beschäftigt. 1964 promovierte er mit der ersten Dissertation über Walter Benjamin bei Adorno und Max Horkheimer. Gemeinsam mit Hermann Schweppenhäuser übernahm er 1970 die Herausgeberschaft der Gesamtausgaben von Adorno und Walter Benjamin. Von 1985 bis 2002 war er Direktor des Theodor W. Adorno Archivs in Frankfurt, von wo aus er u.a. die Ausgaben der Nachgelassenen Schriften Adornos initiierte. Vielfach rezipiert und in zahlreiche Sprachen übersetzt sind die von Tiedemann edierten Bände des Passagenwerks von Benjamin und der Ästhetischen Theorie sowie des Beethoven von Adorno. Rolf Tiedemann verstarb am 29. Juli 2018. Gretel Adorno, geborene Karplus, wurde 1902 in Berlin geboren. Sie war promovierte Chemikerin und leitete von 1933 bis 1937 eine Firma für Lederhandschuhe in Berlin. In den späten zwanziger Jahren stand sie in Verbindung zu zahlreichen Intellektuellen, u. a. zu Walter Benjamin, Ernst Bloch und Bertolt Brecht. 1923 lernte sie Theodor W. Adorno kennen, den sie 1937 im Londoner Exil heiratete. 1938 übersiedelten beide in die Vereinigten Staaten. 1953 kehrten sie nach Deutschland zurück. Gretel Adorno lebte bis zu ihrem Tod im Jahr 1993 in Frankfurt am Main. Susan Buck-Morss ist Professorin für politische Philosophie und Theorien des Sozialen an der Cornell University. Voilà l'histoire de sauvetage d'Entebbe et le plan d'attaque conçu par le commandant des forces d'élite Jonathan Nethanyau. Les interviews avec les membres du commando et le récit passionnant de l'auteur empêche le lecteur de lâcher cet ouvrage avant la dernière page. Iddo Nethanyahu est né à Jérusalem Israél, Le benjamin des trois frères netanyahu. Il a passé une partie de son enfance avec sa famille aux U.S.A. mais il retourna en Israél pour joindre l'élite commando "sayeret matcal" la même unité que son frère aîné allé mener à Entebbe en 1976. Iddo abandonna plus tard ses études à Cornell University pour participer à la guerre et II commença ses études de médecine en Israél. A l'heure actuelle il partage ses activités entre la médecine et les belles-lettres. Auteur de plusieurs ouvrages aussi bien que de nombreux articles et "short stories" Iddo habite Jérusalem avec sa femme et ses deux enfants.
