Und sie führt Commissario Ricciardi bis in die höchsten Kreise der Stadt. Als klar zu sein scheint, dass die Calise von einem ihrer Schuldner umgebracht wurde, ist Ricciardi der einzige, der daran zweifelt. Die letzten Worte der Toten im Ohr, ermittelt er weiter.

Lauter Nachrichten aus der Wirklichkeit (um 1990), aber es braucht jemanden wie Welt, den »größten Erzähler des Ruhrgebiets« (Willi Winkler), der sie uns aufgreift, »anleuchtet«, sichtbar macht. Im Anhang: »Bob Dylan & Buddy Holly. Kein Vergleich«, einer der besten Artikel des Musikjournalisten Wolfgang Welt aus dem Jahr 1991.

        Über »Rasse« im Grundgesetz wird derzeit viel gestritten. Ist es ein rassistisches Wort, das es zu ersetzen gilt, oder eine für die Bekämpfung von Diskriminierung notwendige Kategorie? Doris Liebscher geht der Frage historisch, rassismustheoretisch und rechtsdogmatisch auf den Grund. Sie rekonstruiert, wie der Begriff ins Grundgesetz kam, und untersucht, wie Gerichte und Rechtswissenschaft heute das auf »Rasse« bezogene Diskriminierungsverbot aus Artikel 3 GG auslegen. Auch das Recht der DDR sowie europäische, US-amerikanische und weitere internationale Rechtsdebatten unterzieht sie einer kritischen Analyse, um schließlich für ein postkategoriales Antidiskriminierungsrecht zu plädieren: die Ersetzung des Rechtsbegriffs »Rasse« durch »rassistisch«.

        The divorce of King Lothar and Queen Theutberga

        Hincmar of Rheims's De divortio

        In the mid-ninth century, Francia was rocked by the first royal divorce scandal of the Middle Ages: the attempt by King Lothar II of Lotharingia to rid himself of his queen, Theutberga and remarry. Even 'women in their weaving sheds' were allegedly gossiping about the lurid accusations made. Kings and bishops from neighbouring kingdoms, and several popes, were gradually drawn into a crisis affecting the fate of an entire kingdom. This is the first professionally published translation of a key source for this extraordinary episode: Archbishop Hincmar of Rheims's De divortio Lotharii regis et Theutbergae reginae. This text offers eye-opening insight both on the political wrangling of the time and on early medieval attitudes towards magic, penance, gender, the ordeal, marriage, sodomy, the role of bishops, and kingship.The translation includes a substantial introduction and annotations, putting the case into its early medieval context and explaining Hincmar's sometimes-dubious methods of argument.

        De-centering queer theory

        Communist sexuality in the flow during and after the Cold War

        De-centering queer theory seeks to reorient queer theory to a different conception of bodies and sexuality derived from Eastern European Marxism. The book articulates a contrast between the concept of the productive body, which draws its epistemology from Soviet and avant-garde theorists, and Cold War gender, which is defined as the social construction of the body. The first part of the book concentrates on the theoretical and visual production of Eastern European Marxism, which proposed an alternative version of sexuality to that of western liberalism. In doing so it offers a historical angle to understand the emergence not only of an alternative epistemology, but also of queer theory's vocabulary. The second part of the book provides a Marxist, anti-capitalist archive for queer studies, which often neglects to engage critically with its liberal and Cold War underpinnings.

        Pablo Neruda's Veinte poemas de amor y una canción desesperada (1924) is the most widely read and best loved book of poetry ever written in Spanish. Its verses can be recited by heart by millions of Latin Americans from every background and walk of life, and it has become almost a bible for young lovers. Yet despite, or perhaps because of this immense popular success, it has received scant attention from scholars, often being studied out of context and in relatively superficial fashion. This new critical edition - the first to include critical notes in English - argues that the book constitutes a critical juncture in the young Neruda's development as a poet, and that the poems are as much painstakingly wrought experiments in style, language and form as they are outpourings of youthful passion. A detailed introduction in English demonstrates that the Viente poemas represent the culmination of complex and sometimes fraught poetic apprenticeship, significant traces of which can be found in the poems themselves. This is followed by a series of commentaries which offer close readings of all twenty-one poems, an extensive bibliography, a selected vocabulary, and a list of key rhetorical and metrical terms. ;

Sie hat unter anderem Werke von Marguerite Duras, Alain Robbe-Grillet, Patrick Modiano, Jean-Paul Sartre, André Gide ins Deutsche übertragen. 2007 wurde sie mit dem Eugen-Helmlé-Preis für herausragende deutsch-französische Übersetzungen ausgezeichnet, 2012 mit dem Prix lémanique de la traduction. Sie lebt in Oldenburg und Südfrankreich.
