        I love you…

        by Julien Tănase

        The book "I Love You..." is part of the trilogy..., "I love you, till death..." and "I love you, as long as my heart beats”, autobiographical love novels which include chapters from life in a couple of the writer Julien Tănase and his wife, Magdi, with whom he has been in a relationship for 30 years, all against the background of the events that Romania has gone through in recent decades, after the Revolution of '89. A trilogy about the endurance over time of a young couple in love, who have gone through events that are out of touch with reality in Romania where sleeping with a gun under the pillow, the fear of having their child kidnapped, and even the "wars" waged against the corruption of magistrates, politicians and the information systems of a civil society gripped by the widespread corruption in Romania, including the lawsuit invented by the DNA (National Anticorruption Directorate) to stop his work as a journalist and finally won by the writer, makes the autobiography of writer Julien Tănase a fascinating one that leaves you with a bitter taste in your mouth and a big question mark; ... "such things have happened and continue to happen in Romania"?... The writer Julien Tănase: "A friend in the Italian Police told me, and I quote him: "... if you had done in Italy what you did for your country, today a street would bear your name! But you had been dead!"

        Disability in the Industrial Revolution

        Physical impairment in British coalmining, 1780–1880

        by David M. Turner, Daniel Blackie, Julie Anderson

        An electronic version of this book is also available under a Creative Commons (CC-BY-NC-ND) license, thanks to the support of the Wellcome Trust. The Industrial Revolution produced injury, illness and disablement on a large scale and nowhere was this more visible than in coalmining. Disability in the Industrial Revolution sheds new light on the human cost of industrialisation by examining the lives and experiences of those disabled in an industry that was vital to Britain's economic growth. Although it is commonly assumed that industrialisation led to increasing marginalisation of people with impairments from the workforce, disabled mineworkers were expected to return to work wherever possible, and new medical services developed to assist in this endeavour. This book explores the working lives of disabled miners and analyses the medical, welfare and community responses to disablement in the coalfields. It shows how disability affected industrial relations and shaped the class identity of mineworkers. The book will appeal to students and academics interested in disability, occupational health and social history.

        Fifth Disease

        by Donald Emmeluth, Ed.D.

        Most people have never heard of fifth disease, yet, based on the presence of antibodies in the blood, 50 to 60 percent of all adults had the disease as children. Part of a group of six childhood diseases, fifth disease is caused by the human parvovirus B19, which belongs to the Parvoviridae virus family. For most patients, the first symptoms of the disease are mild and may include a fever, muscle aches, headaches, and lethargy. After about a week, a red rash develops on the cheeks, giving the appearance of someone who has been slapped on both cheeks. Usually a red or pink rash then spreads to the rest of the body before it fades away within five or six weeks. Fifth Disease describes the history, diagnosis, symptoms, treatment, and prevention of fifth disease, and the latest research. Chapters include: Introduction to Fifth Disease What Are Fifth Disease and Other Viruses Diagnostic Methods for Fifth Disease Fifth Disease Diagnosis and Symptoms Treatment for Fifth Disease Viral Replication and Fifth Disease Past and Future Concerns of Fifth Disease

        Die Kubanische Revolution und wie erkläre ich sie meinem Taxifahrer

        by José Manuel Prieto, Susanne Lange

        Kleine Politische Schriften VII

        by Jürgen Habermas

        by Henning Krauß

        Die Französische Revolution hat zum ersten Mal praktisch, auch gewalttätig, gezeigt, daß die Menschheit sich als vernünftiges Gattungssubjekt konstituieren kann, das sich selber – mit dem Anspruch auf Universalität – die Grundverfassung der Menschen- und Bürgerrechte gibt. Die Revolution ist der handgreifliche Gründungsakt der »Moderne«. Jede Debatte über die Folgen der Französischen Revolution ist zugleich eine Verhandlung über die »Moderne« selber und umgekehrt. Ist das hochgemute Versprechen der Errichtung einer Welt »aus Vernunft«, die stets zum Besseren fortschreitet, eingelöst worden? Oder befindet sich das »Projekt Moderne« nicht noch immer im Projektstatus, rühren die aktuellen Übel nicht eher als vom revolutionären Fortschritt von der weitgehenden Abwesenheit der Revolutionswerte Freiheit, Gleichheit, gar Brüderlichkeit her? Das von den Autoren eingebrachte historische, philosophische, politologische, juristische, ökonomische, theologische und ästhetische Fachwissen ist geeignet, zentrale Probleme der Modernität in den für sie relevanten Zusammenhang zu rücken.

        The debate on the English Revolution

        by R Richardson, Roger Richardson

        The debate on the English Revolution is firmly established as an essential guide to the literature in its field and appears here in a much revised third edition. Three new chapters are included on twentieth-century historians' treatments of social complexities, politics, political culture and revisionism, and on the Revolution's unstoppable reverberations. All the other chapters have been amended and recast to take account of recent publications. The book provides a searching re-examination of why the English Revolution remains such a provocatively controversial subject and analyses the different ways in which historians over the last three centuries have tried to explain its causes, course and consequences. Claredon, Hume, Macaulay, Gardiner, Tawney, Hill, and the present-day revisionists are given extended treatment, while discussion of the work of numerous other historians is integrated into a coherent, informative readable survey. ;

        The debate on the French Revolution

        by Peter J. Davies, Roger Richardson, Chantal Hamil

        This book deals with the various types of revolutionary history and the numerous schools of historical thought concerned with the French Revolution. By the time of the Bicentenary celebrations in 1989, the historiographical field had been opened up so much that it was impossible to speak with certainty about any kind of new 'orthodoxy' at all. The fact that the decade and a half following the Bicentenary offered up its own hotchpotch of theorising merely confirmed this. The survey of writings presents a cross-section of historians of the Revolution from the early nineteenth century right up to the present day. From liberals to conservatives and from Marxists to revisionists, it focuses on those individuals who are generally perceived to be the 'major' or 'pre-eminent' figures within revolutionary historiography. A 'history of the histories', this book will be an ideal starting point for those students seeking to better-understand the French Revolution and its history. ;

        Deutschland und Frankreich im Zeitalter der Französischen Revolution

        by Hans-Peter Ullmann, Helmut Berding, Etienne François, Julia Lehfeldt-Kirchner, Helmut Berding

        Frankreich und Deutschland standen lange Zeit für zwei alternative Modelle sozialen Wandels: die Revolution auf der einen, die Reform auf der anderen Seite. Neuere Forschungen in beiden Ländern legen es nahe, diesen bisher so scharf herausgestellten Gegensatz zu relativieren. Tatsächlich gab es zwischen der Revolution in Frankreich und den Reformen in Deutschland mannigfache Zusammenhänge und Wechselwirkungen. Mehr noch: Die Revolution selber wies reformerische Züge auf, und ebenso bargen umgekehrt die Reformen revolutionäre Elemente in sich. Es ist deshalb an der Zeit, weniger über die konträren, mehr dagegen über die komplementären Beziehungen zwischen revolutionärem und reformerischem Wandel nachzudenken. Dies geht nur mit Hilfe eines vergleichenden Ansatzes, wie er im vorliegenden Band konsequent durchgeführt wird. Er erlaubt es, den Abstand zwischen Revolution und Reform genauer zu bestimmen sowie nüchterner als bisher, Licht- und Schattenseiten revolutionärer, aber auch Vor- und Nachteile reformerischer Veränderungen zu beurteilen.
