        Imago Mundi IV

        by José Kozer

        Moses, the man

by Freud (Thomas Gindele, Michel Fagard)

Freud was known for destroying the manuscripts of all his published books. For unindentified reasons, he preserved L’Homme Moïse, a novel retracing the birth of judaism, which is the first version of his testamentary work, written in 1934 and published in 1939, under the title Moïse et le monothéisme.  In October 1934, in a letter addressed to Max Eitingon, he wrote: “Part of this text inflicts serious offenses on Jewish sentiment, another on Christian sentiment, two things which are better to avoid in our time.” He confided later on to Lou Andreas-Salome, on the same topic : “This problem has haunted me all my life. »  By preserving this manuscript, which has never been published, Freud had probably in mind to leave traces of the complex construction of this text, of which he was so fond of and which he published at a time when Nazism was spreading throughout Europe. Thomas Gindele and Michel Fagard, teachers of German at Henri IV High School, found this manuscript at the Library of Congress in Washington, D.C., transcribed and translated it. Their translation is followed by a commentary by Thomas Gindele on the development of the work.

Einstein & the tragedy of the 20th century

        by Simon Veille

Drawing on numerous unpublished documents, notably the Einstein archives in Jerusalem, Simon Veille sheds new light on the personality of the famous scientist: a man of influence greeted by enthusiastic crowds, he never sought power. This unusual disinterestedness, but above all the astonishing correctness of his political intuitions and the ethical dimension of his commitment make him, even today, a reference within chaos, giving him in the eyes of all a real aura of a prophet.

Earning enough as a model to retire in her twenties, she retreats from the world, cultivating her existence through her virtual reality avatar. But then her mother gets sick and she is forced to leave her cocoon without the mask of her perfect, digital self.

De synthèse / The Imago State

        by Karoline Georges

A story of luminous lucidity, the kind that can free the consciousness and thrill the soul, De synthèse shines a light on the end of a filial relationship. It is told from the point of view of an image-obsessed woman reunited with her family just as her mother enters a terminal phase following a long period of suffering. It’s a story about the body, about disappearance, about reflections, about composition and decomposition. Winner of several literary awards. Saving Monotheism

Why the most cruel despotic wars burst out in monotheistic societies

        by Prof. Mordechai Rotenberg

In his new book Saving Monotheism, Prof. Rotenberg claims that the answer to the existential question` why the most cruel despotic wars burst out in monotheistic societies, may be found in the fatal distortion of this divine idea which was supposed to unite the believers in one god. Accordingly. Rotenberg divides the world into masculine “raping missionaries” who impose on others their definition of socio-religious norms because They” know what god wants”. However, according to the alternative feminine “conversive” definition of monotheism, people have to seek the invisible god via romantic creative inter human interactions. The feminine romantic model is derived from the biblical story of Ruth the Moabite mother of David’s Kingdom which may be used as a metaphorical pattern for nonviolent social relations. Hence the Ruthian feminine romantic model may disseminate such egalitarian ideas as “my god is your god” and “my people are your people”, because only “women who do not rape” may enhance friendly social relations. For applicable possibilities Rotenberg proposes the “couching” system according to which a potential virtuous in music, sports or a new religion, joins free willingly a romantic training program which is grounded on a dialogic contract between the coach and his novice. The outlined romantic model includes also a new expanded framework for intimacy by rereading the story of the maiden Avishag and the aging King David as an anti phallocentric system for erotic relations. Prof. Mordechai Rotenberg books in English: Author's books in English: Damnation and Deviance: the Protestant Ethic and the Spirit of Failure, New York: The Free Press, Macmillan 1978. Also published in Japanese, Tokyo: Heibon Sha 1986. New English Edition: New Brunswick, Transaction, 2003. The Mysterious Mythology of the Metamorphosis

        by Owen Waldschlagel

The story begins within and without the experience of the birth of a caterpillar. Descriptive transmutations occur immediately as the caterpillar larva, pupa and imago attributes acquire anthropomorphic insights into the physical natural world and the spiritual mythologies. The catalyst elements of fire and water instigate a sequence of events which change the natural life within and without the caterpillar. The stable elements of air and earth are the backdrop of his life’s journey where he encounters pedagogic anthropomorphic illustrated characters. They are from the natural and mythological worlds and they guide him through the fates towards his destiny. A formidable destiny it is to overcome the crashing and burning of the phoenix and the conflagration of the earth. He achieves this through the creation of elemental balance by becoming through transmogrification the water dragon that originates waters source. The story is illustrated accurately with 80 vividly animated depictions of the interacting characters and their constantly changing world. The reader will be taken on a non-stop physical journey which will visually and intellectually develop into a mythological end result. As Dr. Tiné said to Casey, “Hang on, we’re going for a ride.”

        Catechesis for the New Evangelization

Vatican II, John Paul II, and the Unity of Revelation and Experience

        by Brian Pedraza

Popes Francis, Benedict XVI, and John Paul II have called the present a time of New Evangelization for the Church and have stressed the importance of catechesis for this mission. John Paul II claimed that this renewal of the Church’s mission is grounded in the teachings of the Second Vatican Council. Nevertheless, approaches to catechesis in the conciliar and postconciliar era have varied greatly, as evidenced by the shifts in catechetical practice effected by the modern catechetical movement. Just as the dominant forms of theology changed from neo-scholastic to anthropological approaches so, too, did catechesis move from catechism-based approaches to more anthropological models based upon human experience. In light of this context, Catechesis for the New Evangelization examines the theological foundations of catechesis in the Church’s understanding of divine revelation and its reception by the human person, especially as found in the conciliar constitutions, Dei Verbum and Gaudium et Spes. After drawing norms on divine revelation from these documents, it traces the history of the modern catechetical movement in order to compare this history with the conciliar norms, highlighting the renewal’s strengths and weaknesses. These steps prepare the way for the main part of the book: an examination of the anthropology of Karol Wojtyła/Pope John Paul II. Ultimately, his anthropology provides an understanding of the person that can unite divine revelation and human experience in a way that takes what is best from the modern catechetical movement, while developing the ministry in a way that can be fruitful for the New Evangelization. Pedraza’s book is not only an incisive look at modern catechetical history and theory. It also touches upon some of the most important theological topics of the past century, including the neo-scholastic crisis, the proper interpretation of the Council, the relationship of nature and grace, and the modern understanding of the imago dei, with the research and competency appropriate for scholarly interest and the accessibility needed for educated practitioners in catechesis.
