        The Magic of Empathy

        Theory & Practice

        by Dr. Nicole Audet, M.D.

So many of our relationships—including those most important to us are complicated by not listening: we are eager to speak, we talk over each other, or we unintentionally disregard the inner experiences of others. This is most notable in the working world, where a gap exists between professional efficiency and true human connection. In this heart-warming and radically honest book, Dr. Nicole identifies the remedy for resolving the pain and distance caused by miscommunication: empathy. Empathy, the ability to recognize and make space for another’s emotions without judgment, is both an action and a choice. Discovering the power of empathy to heal and create connections dramatically improved Dr. Nicole’s life, both as a mother and a doctor. The initial chapters demystify the theory of communication, focusing on empathy in theory and practice. Dr. Nicole also shares numerous powerful stories from her own life and career that reveal how empathy has led to authentic connections and long-term healing. Lastly, she provides the reader with proven exercises that will allow you to practice listening without judgment, honoring silence, responding with wisdom, and speaking from the heart. Such communication skills will open the doorsto moments of pure magic in your life.Foreword by Ruth Vachon, President and CEO of the Quebec Business Women’s Network.

        On The Ninth Day

        by Jenny Gill

This is book number 7 in the Southhill Sagas, set in Surrey to the south of London, although each book in the series stands alone.  You know how you have a day when nothing you do goes right?  The traffic holds you up, makes you late for work, you snag your tights then you get caught in the rain?  ‘Just one of those days’ you say.   Well for Annie, a struggling single mum, and her family it is just the opposite – it seems nothing can go wrong. Not just one day, either. And it’s not just the little things but some surprisingly big things too.  It all seems too good to be true, to Annie.  She is convinced there is an unseen force at work, perhaps something to do with the funny lights she thinks she’s seen between her apple trees.   Her friends disagree – they say after all the bad luck she’s had Annie deserves some good luck.   It’s only her just deserts. Meanwhile her neighbours, both to the side and behind her, have some surprisingly good fortune of their own.  Smudge, Annie’s beautiful tortoiseshell cat, who spreads her favours around the neighbourhood, is the only one who sees the big picture.  And if Smudge knows the answer, she isn’t telling.

      • Like Me

        by Emmi-Liia Sjöholm

An unabashedly open and frank novel about growing into womanhood and becoming a mother. A dazzling autofictional debut for the new generation.   Emmi-Liia Sjöholm writes about her own life, including sex, the need the please others, and the struggle to assert one’s independence, with perfect clarity. The story resonates on several levels, and the book is a brutally honest description of real life where one’s past is always present: having an abortion at the age of fourteen, becoming a stepmother in her twenties, love, lust, having a child, searching for a woman’s place in the world, and eventually finding yourself.   Candid yet firmly rooted on the ground, there is a lot to read between the lines. This is prose you feel and breathe rather than just read.

        Four Seasons Of Love

        by Nacarid Portal

In this book, the author leads us through a mirror of emotions, which shows us a path full of ups and downs, where the only option you have is to face the ghosts of the past and move on with life, that life which is filled with both pain and love. Four Seasons of Love is an inward journey that goes beyond the very limits we set ourselves. It is about getting to know your true self again, and be able to find the ability to love your scars. It is about accepting death as a part of life, and that love is not something that has to stay with us to be eternal. Christopher is a singer and a young music composer who is about to release an album with his band. His life revolved around parties, alcohol and luxuries after the death of his twin brother. He writes his feelings in a diary as a way to exorcise his pain. And that diary holds the key to the story of his Ijfe, and the way he lost Matias in a tragic accident, which ultimately led him to emotional isolation. It is a realistic novel that has captured the attention of thousands of people, as many could relate to the characters and the love story between Christopher and Charlotte. As he, who wasn't used to the feeling of romantic love, and whose life's motto was"Love me today, cuz III leave you tomorrow," fell in love with someone who was  involved with someone, and whose interest in him was rather for economic and emotional stability than true love.
