        In the years after the First World War the British government had to adapt its communication policy to connect with the new mass electorate. This book examines the government's own Film Units and their slow development of the Public Information Film. By reviewing the entire film catalogue produced by the Empire Marketing Board, the General Post Office and Crown Film Units, particular themes are identified which not only reflect the demands of the Units' sponsors but also the anxieties and concerns of the 1930s and 1940s. The impact of the films is explored through the contemporary reaction of the audiences to them. By the time the Crown Film Unit was closed in 1952 a style of Public Information Film had been developed and continued into the 1970s.

Hamutal Bar-Yosef creates in The Wall, Etc., a tragicomic, sometimes grotesque slice-of-life narrative that portrays the human condition as the yawning abyss between desires and reality. She expresses great empathy and respect for the characters she depicts, and she enters their inner worlds with a breathtaking sensitivity. Hamutal Bar-Yosef is a well-known Israeli writer, poet, translator, and scholar. She was born in a kibbutz to parents who lost their family in the Holocaust. Her only brother was killed in Israel’s 1948 War of Independence. At age twenty, the author married the playwright Yosef Bar-Yosef and had four children; one committed suicide at sixteen. She provided for her family first as a high school teacher, and then by writing guides for teachers. The author didn’t write her PhD dissertation until after turning forty, and she became a professor of Hebrew literature at Ben-Gurion University. She has published eight scholarly books and fifteen books of poetry, and she has won numerous distinguished prizes for her poetry. Her collection of stories, The Wall, Etc., (originally titled Music) won the ASI (Association of Israeli Writers) prize. Professor Bar-Yosef has translated poetry and prose fiction from English, French, and Russian. Hamutal Bar-Yosef ist eine bekannte israelische Schriftstellerin, Dichterin, Übersetzerin und Gelehrte. Ihre Sammlung von Geschichten, Die Mauer usw., (ursprünglich betitelt Musik) gewann den ASI-Preis (Association of Israeli Writers). Bar-Yosef hat Gedichte und Prosa aus dem Englischen, Französischen und Russischen übersetzt.  Eine englischsprachige nordamerikanische Ausgabe wurde Anfang 2019 von Samuel Wachtmans Sons, Inc., CA, veröffentlicht.184 Seiten. Eine französischsprachige Ausgabe ist zur Veröffentlichung im Sommer 2019 geplant.

        Between 1914 and 1918, military, press and amateur photographers produced thousands of pictures. Either classified in military archives specially created with this purpose in 1915, collected in personal albums or circulated in illustrated magazines, photographs were supposed to tell the story of the war. Picturing the Western Front argues that photographic practices also shaped combatants and civilians' war experiences. Doing photography (taking pictures, posing for them, exhibiting, cataloguing and looking at them) allowed combatants and civilians to make sense of what they were living through. Photography mattered because it enabled combatants and civilians to record events, establish or reinforce bonds with one another, represent bodies, place people and events in imaginative geographies and making things visible, while making others, such as suicide, invisible. Photographic practices became, thus, frames of experience.

Westlich von Budapest gerät die kleine Flüchtlingsgruppe mitten in die ungarisch-deutsch-russischen Kriegshandlungen hinein. János wird von Rotarmisten abgeführt, Alaine fällt der systematischen Vergewaltigung zum Opfer. Was ihr widerfuhr und wie sie überlebt hat, darüber kann sie erst Jahrzehnte später sprechen. Als das Buch 1991 erschien, löste es ungläubiges Entsetzen aus. In elf Sprachen übersetzt, zählt es heute zu den bedeutendsten Lebenszeugnissen von Frauen aus den Jahren des Zweiten Weltkriegs in Mitteleuropa.
