These multifaceted explorations bear out the compelling and enduring aspects of Madden's highly regarded novels.

        Krav Magá: Cómo defenderse contra ataques físicos

        by Imi Sde-Or y el Instructor principal Eyal Yanilov

        Krav Magá: Cómo defenderse contra ataques físicos por el Gran maestro Imi Sde-Or y el Instructor principal Eyal Yanilov En 2009 se publicarán dos volúmenes de próxima aparición en esta serie de superventas, titulados Krav Magá, basada en el famoso método israelí de combate sin armas, que se centra ahora en cómo defenderse contra un ataque sin armas, como por ejemplo, todo tipo de golpes y puntapiés, calces, cogeduras, etc. Krav Magá, desarrollado desde la década de 1930 por el Gran maestro Imi Sde-Or (Lichtenfeld), era antes un método de combate cuerpo a cuerpo estrictamente limitado a agentes de seguridad y a miembros del Mossad y de unidades de comando del ejército israelí. El método ha sido adaptado para civiles, de modo que cualquier persona de cualquier edad, sexo o capacidad física pueda utilizarlo. Esta disciplina, basada en reacciones naturales del cuerpo humano, es fácil de aprender y de ejecutar y es de uso práctico. Krav Magá goza actualmente de una popularidad creciente y de una cada vez mayor aceptación por parte de expertos de todo el mundo. En Estados Unidos y en varios países de Europa, este singular método de autodefensa ya se enseña y se utiliza tanto por parte de diversos organismos de seguridad como del ciudadano de a pie. Krav Magá: Cómo defenderse contra ataques físicos escrito por Imi Sde-Or y su principal discípulo Eyal Yanilov como parte de la serie del fundador, es el primero de dos volúmenes que presentan los principios clave y los métodos de entrenamiento para el combate sin armas. El libro, diseñado en un formato accesible y escalonado, cubre los fundamentos, desde seguridad en el entrenamiento, calentamiento, estiramiento y flexibilidad, hasta principios de ataques, posturas y posiciones iniciales. Los autores ofrecen estrategias para todo marco hipotético imaginable: puñetazos y puntapiés como medio de defensa, liberarse de calces, llaves de cabeza y llave nelson, agarres, puñetazos, derribamientos, etc. El libro, que también hace hincapié en los fundamentos psicológicos de la disciplina, amplía su utilidad con secciones sobre entrenamiento mental, puntos vulnerables, atacantes múltiples y autodefensa para mujeres.Acerca de los autoresEyal Yanilov comenzó a los 15 años a entrenarse en Krav Magá con el Gran maestro Imi Sde-Or. Yanilov fue la primera persona que comenzó a entrenar a instructores de Krav Magá fuera de Israel y ha enseñado a unidades especiales, a militares y a civiles en más de 18 países. El Gran maestro Imi Sde-Or, fundador de Krav Magá, falleció en 1998 a los 88 años. Se prevé la publicación de una versión en inglés americano en el verano de 2010. Cada volumen contiene 240 páginas, y en ambos más de 800 fotos e ilustraciones en blanco y negro; 16,5 x 24 cm.

        Justifying violence

        Communicative ethics and the use of force in Kosovo

        by Naomi Head, Peter Lawler, Emmanuel Pierre Guittet

        When is the use of force for humanitarian purposes legitimate? The book examines this question through one of the most controversial examples of humanitarian intervention in the post Cold War period: the 1999 NATO intervention in Kosovo. Justifying Violence applies a critical theoretical approach to an interrogation of the communicative practices which underpin claims to legitimacy for the use of force by actors in international politics. Drawing on the theory of communicative ethics, the book develops an innovative conceptual framework which contributes a critical communicative dimension to the question of legitimacy that extends beyond the moral and legal approaches so often applied to the intervention in Kosovo. The empirical application of communicative ethics offers a provocative and nuanced account which contests conventional interpretations of the legitimacy of NATO's intervention. ;

        Rules and ethics

        Perspectives from anthropology and history

        by Morgan Clarke, Emily Corran

        This book investigates the pronounced enthusiasm that many traditions display for codes of ethics characterised by a multitude of rules. Recent anthropological interest in ethics and historical explorations of 'self-fashioning' have led to extensive study of the virtuous self, but existing scholarship tends to pass over the kind of morality that involves legalistic reasoning. Rules and ethics corrects that omission by demonstrating the importance of rules in everyday moral life in a variety of contexts. In a nutshell, it argues that legalistic moral rules are not necessarily an obstruction to a rounded ethical self, but can be an integral part of it. An extended introduction first sets out the theoretical basis for studies of ethical systems that are characterised by detailed rules. This is followed by a series of empirical studies of rule-oriented moral traditions in a comparative perspective.

        The ethics of researching the far right

        Critical approaches and reflections

        by Antonia Vaughan, Joan Braune, Meghan Tinsley, Aurelien Mondon

        At a time when far, radical, and extreme-right politics are becoming increasingly mainstream globally - sometimes with deadly consequences - research in these fields is essential to understand the most effective ways to combat these dangerous ideologies. Yet engaging with texts and movements that do physical and verbal violence raises a number of urgent ethical issues. Until recently, this has remained understudied, as scholarship on the far right rarely delves explicitly and critically into the ethics of research. This book seeks to remedy this significant gap in an otherwise extensive and growing literature. Originating from a workshop series in 2020, in which an international group of academics at various career stages shared the ethical challenges and best practices they had developed in their research, this edited collection draws together insights from these ongoing conversations, offering urgent critical reflections on key ethical issues.
