        Tis Pity She's a Whore

        By John Ford

        by Martin White

John Ford's tragedy, first printed in 1633, is the first major English play to take as its theme a subject still rarely handled: fulfilled incest between brother and sister. This Revels Plays edition is a scholarly, modern-spelling edition of one of the most studied and performed of all plays of the period. White's critical introduction explores the textual and theatrical histories of the play, exploring closely its relationship to the particular stage and audience for which it was written. This Revels edition allows the modern reader to become, in Ford's words, an 'actor that but reads'.

        Framing

        The social art of influence

        by Mikael Klintman

A smart, incisive toolkit for understanding how the framing of information influences the way we think about it. In today's chaotic media landscape, working out who and what to believe is a daunting task. Lies and misinformation are only part of the problem - often the way a story is presented has just as much effect on us as what the story is. In Framing, sociologist Mikael Klintman offers a cutting-edge toolkit for exposing and analysing the rhetoric that saturates our everyday lives. Combining insights from the social sciences, economics and evolutionary biology, he lays out a four-part approach to understanding how information is 'framed' for us, built around the key elements of texture, temperature, position and size. Demonstrating this approach through an array of real-world examples, from climate change denial to the subtle messaging of caviar ads, Klintman reveals how canny communicators mislead us without relying on overt deception. At the same time, he probes the deeper evolutionary and cultural roots of our susceptibility to frames.

        Bertrand Blier

        by Sue Harris

The most complete study of Blier's work to date, Harris traces the director's career from the early 1960s until the present. Outlines the forms, themes and style which dominate in Blier's work, and challenges the many labels that have been used to describe both the corpus of films and the man himself. Provides an original and controversial discussion of Blier's alleged 'misogyny', and invites the reader to understand the scatological and corporeal aspects of Blier's filmmaking in terms of long-established traditions of popular dramatic culture. Brings to light the comic mechanisms underpinning Blier's films and identifies strategies which navigate through one of the most entertaining and disconcerting bodies of work of recent years. The first book on Blier published in English.

        Night Talk around a Stove

        by Wang Yongbin

This book is a popular reading material of Confucianism. It is a famous review work of literature in the Ming and Qing Dynasties that evaluates and comments in sections on the anecdotes, people, events, articles and others of that time and before. The author imagines a situation in winter where one talks freely about literature and art with best friends around a stove, which makes the language of this book sincere, natural and easy to read. This book has an important position in the history of Chinese literature because of its unique views. It is divided into 221 pieces, with “settling down and setting up a career” as the general topic, which includes ten sub-topics including morality, self-cultivation, reading, contentment with poverty, children’s education, loyalty and filial piety, diligence and thrift, revealing the profound connotation that the establishment of virtue, establishment of achievement and establishement of theory are all based on one’s career. This book is regarded as one of the three masterpieces dealing with worldly affairs, the other two being The Roots of Wisdom (Caigentan) and Meditation in Solitude by a Tiny Window (Xiaochuang Youji).

Talking about Health and Illness in Simple Terms

Medical Information Sheets in Plain Language

by Tanja Sappok, Reinhard Burtscher, Anja Grimmer

People with intellectual disabilities are signifcantly more likely to suffer from mental and physical disorders than the general population. For this very reason, good healthpromoting and medical care is especially important. Communication diffculties with patients and specialist staff make the necessary examinations and treatments more diffcult and can result in critical situations that are avoidable. If patients can be provided with explanations that are in line with their capabilities, then the level of anxiety and stress is reduced for all concerned. The treatment success rate increases. This largeformat book includes materials that explain about illnesses, examination and treatment methods in language that is easy to understand. The materials can help medical, treatment and educational personnel with their everyday work. They promote dialogue with relatives and people with learning diffculties, contribute to informed decisionmaking and strengthen patient rights.

        Conversations about Ukraine

        by Yaroslav Hrytsak, Izabella Khruslinska

This is the third book in a series of conversations between Iza Khruslinska and Ukrainian intellectuals. The first two books were with Oksana Zabuzhko and Yosyf Zisels. The one with Yaroslav Hrytsak, although, is chronologically the first book. It was first published in Polish language in 2009. The main topic of the conversation with Yaroslav Hrytsak is the suitability of history for understanding what is going on in Ukraine in recent decades. Special emphasis is placed on Ukraine's relations with its historical neighbors – Poles and Russians, as well as Ukrainian-Jewish relations. But first of all, it is about the historical dimension of the current problems and challenges that Ukraine is facing - and to what extent knowledge of history makes it possible to understand future development scenarios. Since the Polish edition was published almost ten years ago, many things in this book have been rethought and rewritten, in particular, a new chapter has appeared on the development of events over the most recent decade.
