Ancient Chinese diplomacy refers to diplomatic activities during the period from the beginning of ancient diplomacy to the outbreak of the Opium War in 1840. The manuscript describes the history of this period. The Xia, Shang, and Western Zhou Dynasties were the emergence and formation of ancient Chinese diplomacy. The Spring and Autumn and Warring States Periods were the development of ancient Chinese diplomacy. The Han Dynasty was the stereotype of ancient Chinese diplomacy. The Tang Dynasty was the heyday of ancient Chinese diplomacy. The period of transformation of ancient diplomacy. Ancient China's diplomacy is foreign affairs diplomacy. The revelation left is that the stronger the national strength, the more capable it can be, and the more rational compromise, the more it can make a difference. The readers of the manuscript are researchers of Chinese history and diplomatic history, and students of Chinese history and diplomatic history.

This book represents the first ever comprehensive study of the EU's foreign and security policy in Bosnia. Drawing on a wealth of fresh empirical material, it demonstrates that institutions are a key variable in explaining levels of common foreign security policy (CFSP) coherence and effectiveness over time. In doing so, it also sheds new light on the role that intergovernmental, bureaucratic and local political contestation have played in the formulation and implementation of a European foreign policy. The study concludes that the EU's involvement in Bosnia has not only had a significant impact on this Balkan country in its path from stabilisation to integration, but has also transformed the EU, its foreign and security policy and shaped the development of the EU's international identity along the way. The book will be of great interest to researchers and students of EU politics, International Relations and Bosnian politics. ;

In the new world order mapped out by Japanese and Western imperialism in East Asia after the mid-nineteenth century opium wars, communities of merchants and settlers took root in China and Korea. New identities were constructed, new modes of collaboration formed and new boundaries between the indigenous and foreign communities were literally and figuratively established. This book analyses the Syria crisis and the role of chemical weapons in relation to US foreign policy. The Syrian government's use of such weapons and their subsequent elimination has dominated the US response to the conflict, where these are viewed as particularly horrific arms - a repulsion known as the chemical taboo. On the surface, this would seem to be an appropriate reaction: these are nasty weapons and eradicating them would ostensibly comprise a 'good' move. But this book reveals two new aspects of the taboo that challenge this prevailing view. First, actors use the taboo strategically to advance their own self-interested policy objectives. Second, that applying the taboo to Syria has actually exacerbated the crisis. As such, this book not only provides a timely analysis of Syria, but also a major and original rethink of the chemical taboo, as well as international norms more widely.
