Editions Schortgen is one of the oldest and largest publishing houses in Luxembourg and has been in existence since 1949. On January 1, 2020, a large part of the book publishing activities of the publishing house Editions Saint Paul were taken over, thereby expanding the publishing program. More than 70 years of experience, competence and passion have resulted in a diversified publishing programme. * Editions Schortgen ist eines der ältesten und größten Verlagshäuser Luxemburgs und besteht seit 1949. Am 1. Januar 2020 wurde ein Großteil der Buchverlags-Aktivitäten des Verlages Editions Saint Paul übernommen und dadurch das Verlagsprogramm erweitert. Gemeinsam mit der Fachhochschule Mainz hat der Insel Verlag ein außergewöhnliches Experiment gewagt: Martin Bubers Erzählungen von Engeln, Geistern und Dämonen, eine Sammlung von chassidischen Geschichten, sollten von Studierenden des Fachbereichs Gestaltung illustriert werden. Das Ergebnis dieses "Wettbewerbs" war beeindruckend. Elf Studenten schufen jeweils eine Illustrationsfolge - nach Aussage und Technik naturgemäß ganz unterschiedlich. Zwei Entwürfe waren so herausragend, daß sie im Herbst 2006 in einer Doppelausgabe in der Insel-Bücherei veröffentlicht werden sollen. Doch alle abgelieferten Arbeiten zeugen von den beachtlichen künstlerischen Fähigkeiten der Mitwirkenden. Daher werden in diesem Heft der Mitteilungen Proben sämtlicher eingereichter Illustrationen abgedruckt, zusammen mit den Beschreibungen der Künstler selbst, die zeigen, in welcher Weise die Erzählungen, ihre Atmosphäre, zu den Bildern, zu der je besonderen Motivauswahl und Darstellungstechnik angeregt haben. Daneben enthält dieses Heft einen Beitrag von Dorothee Hoppe über die Bilder von John Elsas sowie einen Artikel von Karl-Hartmut Kull über die Insel-Bücherei als Vorbild für die Bücherei des Schocken Verlags. Die mit den Beiträgen von Heinz Sarkowski begonnene Geschichte der Insel-Bücherei wird mit dem nächsten Heft fortgesetzt werden.
