CAMELOZAMPA is an independent children’s books publisher, founded in Italy in 2011 and winner of the BOP 2020 - Bologna Prize for the Best Children’s Publishers of the Year (Europe). Our aim is to publish fresh and inspiring picture books and novels that help young readers in pursuing happiness, understanding diversities, becoming aware of themselves. One of our strong points is the rediscovery of international masterpieces that never appeared on the Italian market or that have not been available for long time. Alongside these redescoveries we carry out a creative production work, thanks to Italian and international authors and illustrators who share with us the fascinating and unpredictable path which leads to the birth of a children’s book. We think independent publishers have the task to cultivate bibliodiversity, in order to get narrations to their readers, through images and words that can amaze, excite, reflect, offer unexpected glimpses and open windows on far-off or nearby different worlds.

The extraordinary twentieth-century writer Barbara Comyns led a life as captivating as the narratives she spun. This pioneering biography reveals the journey of a woman who experienced hardship and single-motherhood before the age of thirty but went on to publish a sequence of novels that are unique in the English language. Comyns turned her hand to many jobs in order to survive, from artist's model to restoring pianos. Hundreds of unpublished letters reveal an occasionally desperate but resourceful and witty woman whose complicated life ranged from enduring poverty when young to mixing with spivs, spies and high society. While working as a housekeeper in her mid-thirties, Comyns began transforming the bleak episodes of her life into compelling fictions streaked with surrealism and deadpan humour. The Vet's Daughter (1959), championed by Graham Greene, brought her fame, although her use of the gothic and macabre divided readers and reviewers. This biography not only excavates Comyns's life but also reclaims her fiction, providing a timely reassessment of her literary contribution. It sheds new light on a remarkable author who deftly captured the complexities of human life.

Our Hearts Are So Stubborn is a novel about a generation of educated youths. Their lives have been realistically reconstructed through the imagination and writing of Zhaoyan Ye. Previous books about this generation of educated youths have been closely related to the “grand narrative” that is studied in schools today as history. From birth, this generation was tasked with assuming the burden of history and making that “grand narrative” a reality. Of course in reality, that narrative was more often than not a fabrication, even if it did have a small correlation with these youths’ lives. In this book, Zhaoyan Ye explains the real history of this generation. The main characters of the novel are Xuemin Cai, the fourth son in his family, later called the “fourth elder”, and his current lover—soon to be wife—Liyan Xue. They are attracted to each other from the beginning of the story, and eventually their lives are bound tightly together by their romantic affair. Their physical relationship has very little to do with the undying love and honesty that drives the plots of traditional love stories, and more to do with the unrestrained hopes and dreams that people have, as well as the wanton indulgence of one’s desires. Even though the story takes place during an era when the education of the youth was strongly emphasized and little self-indulgence was tolerated, the blossoming of these two young students’ love cannot be restrained.

Text has always been the chief vehicle for the inscription and dissemination of knowledge and culture. As more and more of our textual communication moves into the digital realm we have reached a crucial moment in the history of textual transmission. In many respects digital text looks deceptively like print. But beneath the surface of the screen, digital textuality obeys very different rules than printed text. The digital textual universe offers a wealth of new and exciting possibilities - but it also sets new rules for the writer's and reader's engagement with text. Changing our textual minds analyses the continuities and discontinuities in textual transmission as we move from a print paradigm into an increasingly digital world. It conceptualises the epochal transition from analogue to digital both in factual terms and in terms of its social significance. Centuries of reading and writing practice have made us Homo typographicus. Our entire way of disseminating knowledge and culture is firmly based on print culture. The need to come to grips with the shift to digital textuality in the early twenty-first century will literally change our minds. ;
