Author Biography

Jewel L. Spangler is associate professor of history at the University of Calgary in Alberta, Canada. She has published on eighteenth-century American religion and the cultural history of the early American republic. She is currently at work on a book-length microhistory centered on the Richmond Theatre Fire of 1811.; Frank Towers is associate professor of History at the University of Calgary in Alberta, Canada. He has published on nineteenth-century U.S. cities, politics, and historiography, including the co-edited Confederate Cities: The Urban South during the Civil War Era (2015) and The Old South’s modern Worlds The Old South's Modern Worlds: Slavery, Region, and Nation in the Age of Progress (2011).; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ;
