Oscar (Fingal O’Flahertie Wills) Wilde wurde am 16. Oktober 1854 in Dublin als Sohn des Arztes William Wilde und der Dichterin Jane Francesca Elgee geboren. Er studierte klassische Literatur am Trinity College in Dublin und am Magdalen College in Oxford. 1879 ging er nach London, wo er sich bald durch seinen extravaganten Lebensstil und seine rhetorische Gewandtheit einen Namen machte. Nach Reisen in die USA, nach Kanada und Frankreich arbeitete Wilde zunächst für verschiedene Zeitungen als Lektor und Herausgeber. Seit 1884 mit Constance Lloyd verheiratet, schrieb und veröffentlichte er 1888 für seine eigenen Kinder die Märchensammlung The Happy Prince and Other Tales. In den folgenden Jahren entstanden weitere Erzählungen (wie The Picture of Dorian Gray, 1891) und zahlreiche Bühnenstücke (wie The Importance of Being Earnest, 1895), die außerordentliches literarisches und gesellschaftliches Aufsehen erregten. Auf dem Höhepunkt seines Erfolges stürzte ihn dann jedoch der Skandal um das langjährige Verhältnis mit Lord Alfred Douglas in den Ruin. Wilde verlor eine Verleumdungsklage gegen Douglas Vater, der ihn der Sodomie bezichtigt hatte, und wurde selbst in einem Strafprozeß wegen Unzucht zu einer zweijährigen Haftstrafe verurteilt. Nach seiner Entlassung aus dem Gefängnis in Reading floh er vor der gesellschaftlichen Ächtung unter falschem Namen nach Paris. Völlig mittellos starb er hier am 30. November 1900. Kurt Landauer (1884-1961), Präsident von Bayern München von 1913-33 und wieder ab 1947. Hedwig Lachmann, geboren 1865 in Stolp und verstorben 1918 in Krumbach, war eine deutsche Schriftstellerin und Übersetzerin.

"Action instead of comfort" is the maxim; "therapy instead of resignation" the variant. There is something old-fashioned about comfort. And still we long for it; people have always looked for "sources of comfort". In the midst of the climate and global political upheavals of our time, in the middle of a Ukraine war, a play recently celebrated at the Salzburg Festival is called, "Crazy for Consolation". People seek comfort because just helping is no longer helping; they are at the end of their abilities. "Comfort" would appear to be a gift in both senses of the word. But "comfort" is a mystery. Jean-Pierre Wils attempts to solve it in this essay.

The revolutionaries Mao Zedong and Zhu De launched revolutionary activities in Rucheng, which has consolidated the mass foundation on this land.The book takes the "Half Quilt" story as the entrance, integrates the Long March story and revolution story of Rucheng, and the story of Shazhou Village's poverty eradication in the new era.

Half of the Quilt(Youth Edition) is based on the movie Heart for Heart (produced by Xiaoxiang Film Group and directed by Meng Qi). In October 1934, the fifth anti-encirclement failed, the Central Red Army evacuated the Soviet Union and began the Long March. The Red Army field hospital was bombed by enemy planes and suffered heavy casualties. Dong Xiuyun, a female soldier who stayed at the field hospital to look after the wounded, decided to take the wounded with her and chase the troops. Dong Xiuyun took in the soldiers of the various units who were left alone along the road, forming a special team. After the team came to Shazhou Village, the three female Red Army lived in Xu Xiexiu's house. When parting, Dong Xiuyun cut the only one quilt in half to Xu Xiexiu. This book nourishes the young people's spiritual world with red culture, inherits the red gene, and allows the spirit of the Long March to be passed on from generation to generation among children.

Sentinels for Freshwater Conservation

Dragonflies are among the most familiar and popular of all insects, deeply embedded in human cultural history. They are iconic and tell us much about the environments in which we and they live. Their conservation is an important part of biodiversity conservation. One modern dragonfly species is listed as extinct, with many others currently threatened. It is now essential to increase conservation efforts towards saving these threatened species, with strategies now available for doing this. Recovery of dragonfly populations goes hand in hand with improvements to both freshwater conditions and bank vegetation quality. In contrast, some other dragonfly species have benefitted greatly from human transformation of the landscape, with artificial ponds in particular, increasing the population levels of many species. In turn, climate change is seeing many geographical range shifts. Dragonflies are variously sensitive to the health of freshwater systems, and the quality of vegetation along rivers and around ponds. Dragonflies are excellent indicators in these times of great concern over the quality of our freshwater supplies. Their wide range of sensitivities enables us to measure the extent to which freshwater ecosystems are either deteriorating or are improving when we undertake restoration. They enable us to gauge how well we are conserving freshwaters, whether ponds and lakes, streams or rivers. They are also good umbrellas for many other freshwater inhabitants, which altogether reflect the health of a freshwater system. Conservation of Dragonflies: Sentinels for Freshwater Conservation is for naturalists, citizen scientists, entomologists and conservation scientists, as well as practitioners and policy makers around the world.

Damit ein so großes, fast präzedenzloses Werk gelingt, ist unerläßliche Voraussetzung, daß geistige Vertreter der beiden Völker miteinander in ein echtes Gespräch kommen, in dem sich gegenseitige Aufrichtigkeit und gegenseitige Anerkennung verbinden. Die geistigen Vertreter müssen in vollem Sinne des Wortes unabhängige Menschen sein, Menschen also, die durch keinerlei Rücksicht gehindert werden, der Sache, die sie als wahr und gerecht erkannt haben, rückhaltlos zu dienen.«Diese Sätze Martin Bubers (1878-1965) sind von ungebrochener Aktualität. Unter dem programmatischen Titel Ein Land und zwei Völker vereinigt der vorliegende Band die politischen Schriften des bedeutenden Religionsphilosophen. In ihnen wird deutlich, wie sehr ein grundlegendes, am nicht zerstörbaren Wert aller Menschen orientiertes sittliches Bewußtsein, das auf Versöhnung zielt, der Politik eine vernünftige Selbstbestimmung ermöglicht, ohne die konkreten Erfordernisse in Konflikten aus den Augen zu verlieren. Martin Buber geht es um das ›Miteinander‹, nicht um die Konfrontation, so wie er in seiner Philosophie des Dialogs bemüht war, ›Ich‹ und ›Du‹ in ihrer menschlichen Eigenständigkeit zusammenzubringen. Dabei erörtert er Fragen, die damals wie heute auf die drängenden und ungelösten Probleme im Zusammenleben von Juden und Arabern, von Israelis und Palästinensern hinweisen. »Haben wir einen eigenen Weg?« – »Falsche Propheten« – »Ein Judenstaat mit Kanonen, Flaggen und Orden?« – »Zwei Völker in Palästina« – »Wir brauchen die Araber, die Araber brauchen uns« sind Themen, die Buber in diesem Band behandelt. In seinem erweiterten Vorwort geht der Herausgeber Paul Mendes-Flohr auf die aktuelle politische Situation im Nahen Osten ein.Martin Bubers politische Schriften sind ein Dokument kritischer Vernunft und menschlicher Integrität, das aus seinem Geschichtsbewußtsein die normative Kraft für ein Leben in Frieden bezieht. Für Bubers Humanismus gilt ein Wort von Gustav Landauer, das heute so aktuell ist wie eh und je: »Frieden ist möglich, weil er notwendig ist.«
