Reviews
If you've read your fair share of crime thrillers and suspense stories you would be all too familiar with botched up details and unrealistic scenarios. This book, is far from the case. ...pun not intended.
Before I fawn over this book I highly recommend anyone who's into the thriller/suspense genre or even just a good new read to check it out. I found this book after having read and immensely enjoyed one of the author's other books, Tub of Spiders, which, is like...one of my favorite crime novels. Ever. But it's different from this book as it takes place in modern day.

Jimmy Egan is not your usual private eye and neither is his war-buddy Wood Jr, a low-budget writer and director in Hollywood. Egan, having had his life saved by the latter years back, is determined to carry out a personal oath for him when his friend is found to be the target of an obscure menace.
A quick read, this book is delightfully suspenseful, smartly written and well-researched, and in more than one event, hilarious. The humor was especially appreciated as it IMO only ups the memorability of a story.
Few are the writers who are truly capable of writing real, conscious characters: they not only propel the story forward but simply make it convincing. With this book I couldn't help but like both the good as well as some of the bad guys...but perhaps that's just me. Everyone was well-defined and personable, down to their little idiosyncrasies, much unlike a number of books of the crime-suspense genre. I had to pause while reading just to sort of sit there dumbly and admire how this was all woven by one person. Yes, I had sat there and stared. I admit it.
Needless to say, the story impressively carries its own voice in its Hollywood 50s setting and serves as the start of a series featuring Egan as our main man. I just cannot wait to read upcoming installments to this series.
And on a not-so-relevant note, when the heck is the author going to make all his work available in kindle? I live on it. Please make all your work available on kindle, David, for reader's sake. Bless you.
